Author Account Information

You have been assigned an Article Writer account, which you can access through our Contributor Gateway. You can now view your name on our Authors Page. In addition, you have been assigned an individual Articles Page, which you can access by clicking on "view articles" under your name on the Authors Page. For example, see David Swanson's Articles Page. Also view our continuously updated list of published articles on Google News. Your work will now appear on all 21 of our online magazines with just one click. In addition, your work will be nationally syndicated and your work will appear in major Internet search engines and major news aggregators. All submissions must comply with our Editorial Board Contributor Policy . If you are not able to comply with our policy, do not submit work to us. Articles that do not comply with our policy will not be published.

We make a distinction between articles and blogs. The following sections indicate the differences between article writing and blogging.

Article Writer Accounts. Your Article Account is for you to submit full-length (formal) feature or opinion articles (sometimes called stories). The dictionary defines an "article" as independent prose that forms an independent part of a publication. For example, articles can be stories, essays, opinion pieces, straight-reporting, or a feature about any topic of interest. Accordingly, articles should include references, citations, and/or evidentiary substantiation of statements made whenever appropriate. In addition to our live news feeds, we publish feature and opinion articles on shopping, sports, politics, city government, local/national issues, health and fitness, etc. You can read samples of our most-recent articles by visiting our Latest Opinion Articles page and our Latest Feature Articles page. All articles are subject to editorial review (mostly for grammar and formatting) before they are published. Articles are usually approved for publication within 24 hours. All submissions must comply with our Editorial Board Contributor Policy . If you are not able to comply with our policy, do not submit work to us. Articles that do not comply with our policy will not be published.

Blogger Accounts. A blog account, on the other hand, is for writers to post regular journals, personal observations, or diaries. We have seen writers post blogs that are one-sentence in length and we have seen blogs that are multiple paragraphs. Blogs are "less formal" than articles; accordingly, they are published immediately and are not subject to editorial review. Note that writers can duplicate blogs and articles on both accounts if desired. However, all articles should be full-length feature or opinion pieces (usually over 250 words with no maximum word-length limit). See our Blogger Page for a list of individuals who have blog accounts with us. All blogs must comply with our Editorial Board Contributor Policy . Blog accounts that do not comply with our policy will closed.

You can change your password after you have logged into the system. If you forget or don't know your password, you can have it emailed to you from the login page. Note that your password will be emailed to you from " administrator@americanchronicle.com", so you should add this address to your list of safe contacts so that your spam blocker does not prevent you from receiving notices from this address.
  • Other email addresses from which you may receive notices include editor@amchron.com and supportstaff@amchron.com, so please check your spam folder periodically and add these addresses to your list of safe contacts as well.
  • You may login to either the Author Administration area or Blogging area through our Contributor Gateway, which you should bookmark. Announcements or other important information for authors may be routinely published at the Contributor Gateway
  • Your password is case-sensitive. So you should cut-and-paste your password from the email notification you received into the login page. This will ensure that the password is entered into the prompt correctly.
  • Using the Contributor Gateway, please update your profile information. You can add a photo of yourself and a link to your website if you wish. You may also add biographical information and an email address, which will appear with your published work.
  • Use the Administration area to add, edit, and delete your articles. You will be able to write, add, and then edit (make any changes) to your articles immediately. Instructions for publishing your articles are provided on the Add Article page. Note that you must click on the word "submit" to send your article to be reviewed for publishing. Your article will be queued for editorial review (mostly for grammar and formatting). Once your article is approved (usually within 24 hours) you will receive an automatic notification by email that your article has been published and is available for viewing on the site.

  • If you want to include boldface, italic, bullet lists, numbered lists, or links to photos in the body of your articles, that's okay and certainly welcome. But you'll need to know a little basic HTML coding to include these features. Visit the HTML Code Tutorial page for hints and information about how to format your articles using these features. Otherwise, the body of your articles will be published in formatted normal text with no boldface or italic, which is just fine.
  • If you want to post a photo with your article, send the photo to the editor at editor@AMchron.com with instructions. Or, cut-and-paste the photo's URL location before any text at the beginning of your article as in: <img src="http://mywebsite.com/photo.jpg" width="200" align="left" hspace="6" vspace="6"> where "http://mywebsite.com/photo.jpg" is the photo location from the image's properties panel on your website. If you are having trouble with this, just email the editor.
  • A staff member will read and approve your articles before publication. After you have submitted an article, you may write to us at  editor@AMchron.com to inform us that you are waiting for article approval. However, your article will be automatically queued for review after you submit it for publication. Once your article is approved (usually within 24 hours) you will receive an automatic notification by email that your article has been published.
  • Submission of your work for publication constitutes that you have read and agree to abide by our Author Agreement.

More Information Just for Bloggers

(New Blog accounts are temporarily unavailable at this time.)/p>

  • You can now view your name on our our Blogger Page
  • Your blogging account is different from your article writing account. Why? A few of our bloggers choose to have a local or regional audience, rather than a national or international audience. So their blogs appear only in our local publications and not on our national and international sites. Your blogs will appear on all of our sites with just one click.
  • Visit the Blogging Login Page and enter your email address. Your password will automatically be sent to you.
  • You can now return to the Blogging Login Page, enter your email address and password, and begin creating, editing, and submitting your blogs. You can change your profile information, such as your password, after you login.
  • If you want to give your blog a title, such as "The Scoop" or "Brian's Blogs", just contact the editors at editor@amchron.com and let us know what you want your blog title to be. Otherwise, your blog title will be your first name and your last name.
  • You are encouraged to post and direct your readers to the Town Hall. This is a new feature and we hope you can help us to promote it.
