The gay marriage issue put George W. Bush in office in 2004, and therefore contributed heavily to the "Great Recession." Using it as a wedge is vital to the religious right/Tea Party Republican strategy. We are defined as a nation by how we treat our pariahs: gays, atheists, Muslims and illegal immigrants. There is far more at stake here than a label slapped on gay relationships. It is a key determinant in the very future of democracy.

Today we are still faced with old religious based superstitions which place lines of separation among the masses.
Modern society has no place for such prejudice ideals as we are all a global community of many differing cultures who have to live in harmony or face extinction.
If human civilization is to survive the present for a bright future we must rid ourselves of religious based lines of separation which are born from ideals of self glorification.

Most Calvary Chapels are in the U.S. and Europe. Most of their affiliates are Evangelicals.
Because animals are so precious to them, most Calvary Chapel/Evangelicals teach that there will be pets in Heaven. But in Matthew 22:29-31, Jesus says: "… You are mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God. For in the resurrection humans neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels of God in Heaven. But concerning the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was spoken to you by God …" There will be no husband-wife relationship in Heaven, but God will allow Christians to have their pets in Heaven? ?

In Africa the colonial powers abolished slavery in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, but in areas outside their jurisdiction, such as the Mahdist empire in Sudan, the practice continued to thrive. Now, institutional slavery has been banned worldwide, but there are numerous reports of women sex slaves in areas without an effective government control, such as, Sudan, Liberia, Sierra Leone, northern Uganda, Congo, Niger and Mauritania. In Ghana, Togo, and Benin, a form of religious prostitution known as trokosi ["ritual servitude"] forcibly keeps thousands of girls and women in traditional shrines as "wives of the gods", where priests perform the sexual function in place of the gods.

Thomas Jefferson´s words in the Declaration of Independence resonated with Americans, Catholic and not, in 1776 and ever since. They are lofty but simple. School children recite them and write essays about them. We all know what they mean even if we don´t always apply them to the great issues of our day. They cut to the heart of who we think we are as a nation, of what kind of people we aspire to be.
Jefferson wasn´t Catholic but except for the clarity you might not guess it from those words. They are entirely consistent with the Magisterium, the teaching authority of the Church. Unfortunately we too often get caught up in awkward theological concepts like option for the poor, dignity of man, solidarity, subsidiarity, and universal destination of goods. The mind boggles.
