Macedonian names and makeDonski pseudo-linguistics: The case of the name Milon
"Modern Slavs, both Bulgarians and Macedonians, cannot establish a link with antiquity, as the Slavs entered the Balkans centuries after the demise of the ancient Macedonian kingdom. Only the most radical Slavic factions—mostly émigrés in the United States, Canada, and Australia—even attempt to establish a connection to antiquity... Eugene Borza, "Macedonia Redux", University of California Press, 1999. It is precisely in their attempt to create a non existing connection with antiquity that the pseudomakedonists reach the crescendo of their irrationality, achieving scholarly absurdity. It is in the prolific writings of the FYROM folk personality ("I am highly educated historian and a writer from European country Republic of Macedonia") but untrained in History "historian" professor Aleksandar Donchevic (Donski) that Skopje's pseudomakedonist regime has found its purest celebrity propagandist. He is the author of, among many others, "The Genealogical Lineage between Certain American Presidents and the Dynasty of Alexander the Great and Other Macedonian Dynasties". "The book [we are told] uncovers indisputable evidence and offers proof that no fewer than eleven U.S. presidents have been partially of ancient Macedonian ancestry: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Monroe, William Taft, Grover Cleveland, Warren Harding, Franklin Roosevelt, Richard Nixon, George Herbert Walker Bush, and the current president George Walker Bush." While we try to hold our tears of excitement and jubilation back, having just been informed that George W. Bush is a blue blooded descendant of the Makedonski dynasty of the fabled Czar of the "Proto-Slavs" Aleksandar Veliki (Alexander the Great), what will instead concern us here is the list of the ancient names that professor Aleksandar Donchevic (Donski) considers to be Slavomacedonian. Not that a list of fifty five names would prove anything about the ethnicity of any people, but since they are brought forward, we will study them in depth. We will expose each and every name on his quassi-macedonian name list to be a naive attempt at Yugo-Slavic folk etymology at best, or a south Balkan nationalist propaganda fraud emanating from FYROM at worst. Milon is an ancient Greek name, coomon throughout the Greek world from Macedonia to Crete and from Magna Graecia to Ionia, as the epigraphic record amply proves. The name is derived from the Greek verb verb smileuo-mileuo, meaning "to use a "mile"/"smile"=chisel", i.e. to chisel, to carve marble, stone or wood. The Slavonic name Milo "the sweet" and "dear" one, has no connection to the ancient Greek Milon.

This is a paper that traces the historical geography of FYROM through the ages, and makes a case for either a multicultural-neutral name for that that multinational country or a name that will be ethnically descriptive of the majority of the Slavic people of FYROM, that will not deleteriously antagonize its Greek neighbors.

There are several place names-toponyms with Ment- Mant- and Mend- derived names, like the Greco-Thracian town Mende in Chalcidike, Macedonia-Northern Greece. The name Manta and Mantas have several cognates well attested in epigraphy and literature.

Any persons in Greek history and Mythology had this name, and it is not in the least connected to the much latter attested Slavic word for head, glava.

In Kopria's case, no relation can be credibly established between the (much later attested, 1500 years later) Slavonic name for dill (kopur, krip, ukrop, kopra, kôpor, koper, kopr, kopër, kopra, *kapr´ = dill) and the ancient Macedonian Greek name Kopria/Κοπρία.
Is there a Rift between Greece and the Former Yugoslav Republic of "Macedonia" on Alexander?
...the extension of the geographic term "Macedonia" to cover southern Yugoslavia cannot. Even in the late 19th century, this misuse implied unhealthy territorial aspirations. The same motivation is to be seen in school maps that show the pseudo-greater Macedonia, stretching from Skopje to Mt. Olympus and labeled in Slavic. The same map and its claims are in calendars, bumper stickers, bank notes, etc., that have been circulating in the new state ever since it declared its independence from Yugoslavia in 1991. Why would a poor land-locked new state attempt such historical nonsense? Why would it brazenly mock and provoke its neighbor? However one might like to characterize such behavior, it is clearly not a force for historical accuracy, nor for stability in the Balkans. It is sad that the United States of America has abetted and encouraged such behavior. We call upon you, Mr. President, to help - in whatever ways you deem appropriate - the government in Skopje to understand that it cannot build a national identity at the expense of historic truth. Our common international society cannot survive when history is ignored, much less when history is fabricated. Eugene Borza, "Macedonia Redux", University of California Press, 1999. A lot of water has gone under the bridge since E.Borza wrote this statement. By now, pseudo-Makedonism has moved from the coffee houses of Toronto and Sydney to the Government buildings in Skopje. It has become the tool of convenience in building an ultra-nationalist cult for the perpetuation of the quasi-fascistic rule of the VMRO party. Nikola Gruevski is following on the steps of the late Saparmurat Niyazov the "Turkmenbashi", "leader of the Turkmen", of Turkmenistan, and his well tried methods of building the cult of a Central Asian type "President for Life", FYROM's own Makedonbashi.

Delus is unrelated to Greek/Macedonian Delios.

We will expose each and every name on his quassi-macedonian name list to be a naive attempt at yugo-Slavic folk etymology at best, or a south Balkan nationalist propaganda fraud emanating from FYROM at worst.
Macedonian names and makeDonski pseudo-linguistics: The case of the name Atarchias
"Modern Slavs, both Bulgarians and Macedonians, cannot establish a link with antiquity, as the Slavs entered the Balkans centuries after the demise of the ancient Macedonian kingdom. Only the most radical Slavic factions—mostly émigrés in the United States, Canada, and Australia—even attempt to establish a connection to antiquity..." Eugene Borza, "Macedonia Redux", University of California Press, 1999 It is precisely in their attempt to create a non existing connection with antiquity that the pseudomakedonists reach the crescendo of their irrationality, achieving scholarly absurdity. It is in the prolific writings of the FYROM folk personality ("I am highly educated historian and a writer from European country Republic of Macedonia") but untrained in History "historian" Aleksandar Donchevic (Donski) that Skopje's pseudo-makedonist regime has found its purest celebrity propagandist. He is the author of, among many others, "The Genealogical Lineage between Certain American Presidents and the Dynasty of Alexander the Great and Other Macedonian Dynasties". "The book uncovers indisputable evidence and offers proof that no fewer than eleven U.S. presidents have been partially of ancient Macedonian ancestry: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Monroe, William Taft, Grover Cleveland, Warren Harding, Franklin Roosevelt, Richard Nixon, George Herbert Walker Bush, and the current president George Walker Bush." While we try to hold back our tears of excitement and jubilation, having just been informed that George W. Bush is a blue blooded descendant of the Macedonian dynasty of Alexander the Great, what will instead concern us here is the list of the allegedly ancient "Macedonski" names that professor Aleksandar Donchevic (Donski) considers to be Slavo-macedonijan. We will expose each and every name on his pseudo-makedonist name list to be a naive attempt at Slavic folk etymology at best, or a south Balkan nationalist propaganda fraud at worst.

The alleged differences between the Macedonians and the other ancient Greeks
"[the Slavic]...Macedonians are a newly emergent people in search of a past to help legitimize their precarious present as they attempt to establish their singular identity in a Slavic world dominated historically by Serbs and Bulgarians."
