Clarifying Plutarch's "Parallel Lives" on Alexander and the Macedonians - Part 4
..."unashamedly"... "conceivable"... "treacherous"... "preposterous undertaking"... "manipulations" … "buttressed subjects of all times"... Is anyone day dreaming here? Greeks are not claiming Julius Caesar, Cyrus the Great or Tutanhamon, after all, we are talking about Alexander the Great here...and who is pointing the finger on "the Greeks"? Someone whose name rhymes with that of the Polish director Krzysztof Kieslowski, or the Russian composer Pyotr Ilitch Tchaikovsky, great Slavs in their own right, who would never claim a Hellenic-Macedonian decent. Names ending in "-ovski" did not appear in Macedonia for at least a thousand years after Philip and Alexander had met their destiny. Let's keep our feet on the ground when we put ink on paper, and claim to be writing history, or, rather, polemics on history, more specifically. It is unfortunate, but this is indeed the reason why Greeks have been lately holding their bellies, lying on the floor and laughing, finding this whole archaeo-Makedonist circus taking place in Skopje (with supersized bronze statues of Boukephalus and all) immensely amusing, if anything. On a more serious note, the challenge facing the claimants of everything "Macedonian", as far as modern Greeks are concerned, is obvious: If you are Slavs, you cannot be Macedonians, NOT in an ethnic sense, anyway. Claiming to be Macedonians in a very limited, partially geographic sense (since everyone accepts that the bulk -to the tune of 80%- of Ancient Macedonia and more than 50% of Ottoman Macedonia lies today in Northern Greece) is debatable, but we can definitely talk about it. Claiming the exclusivity of the names "Macedonia" and "Macedonian" in an ethnic sense, is not debatable, no matter how many of the 135 odd countries in the world are ready to endorse it. Greeks are ready to concede that Malvides belong to Argentina and Faulklands to England, it is too far from them...who cares! In the same way, who in the Republic of Cape Verde, in the Federated States of Micronesia or in the Republic of Nauru cares how Slavic speaking citizens of ex-Yugoslavia's southernmost republic call their country. The southern Balkans is an exotic locale for them. For the Greeks, it is a whole different story. They are the violated party in this dispute, being told to relinquish their culture and history to a relative late comer who is aggressively pursuing ownership rights over EVERYTHING "Macedonian" To be continued. Clarifying Plutarch's "Parallel Lives" on Alexander and the Macedonians - Part 5
Calling oneself an "ethnic Macedonian" does not make anyone an "ethnic" anything as long as there are others who live in Macedonia, with long established cultural, historical and linguistic roots in Macedonia proper, the Macedonia of Philip, Aristotle and Alexander the Great, and the Macedonia St. Paul visited, who steadfastly refuse to accept that pretension, no matter how many statues of Philip and Alexander the pretenders build. Calling oneself Napoleon does not make one Napoleon and surely the world does not have to go along with that silliness just for the sake of supposedly avoiding hurting the feelings of the pretender. The word "silliness" is taken within context from the Letter to Obama sent to the US president by the over 360 Classics and History Scholars from the the most renowned Universities worldwide, where among other things we read: "Macedonia and Macedonian Greeks have been located for at least 2,500 years just where the modern Greek province of Macedonia is. Exactly this same relationship is true for Attica and Athenian Greeks, Argos and Argive Greeks, Corinth and Corinthian Greeks, etc." (http://macedonia-evidence.org/obama-letter.html)
Of color blind knaves and blind fools: a few points on the Macedonian issue
Until now, they had thought that time is on their side. More and more countries were recognizing FYROM under its pseudonym ROM, and they had thought that the issue will fade into a solution in their favor. Two NATO summits later, the EU doors shut closed and an increasingly restive Albanian minority unwilling to put up with all this nonsense, plus the fact that Greece is bound to have weak governments for some time to come, therefore unable to compromise and be sen as traitor to long term Hellenic national interests and now the bleak realization is finally sinking in: Time is not on the pseudo-Makedonist's side after all.
Clarifying Plutarch's "Parallel Lives" on Alexander and the Macedonians - Part 3
The attempt to distort Ancient Greek history, making a total mockery out of it in the service of a 20th century forged ethnic identity of a mainly Slavic and Albanian but truly multi-ethnic state in the south of ex-Yugoslavia, and all of it based on the grossly inaccurate interpretation of isolated quotes, comes at a cost. The price tag is blaring academic derision (http://macedonia-evidence.org/obama-letter.html ) and manifest self exposure to worldwide ridicule. Make him whatever you want, but any Badian or Borza, Wilcken, Errington, Hammond, Heckel, Tarn or Cartledge would fall on the floor laughing their heart's content out if someone would suggest to them that Basileus Alexandros Philippou o Makedon was some sort of proto-Slavic Czar Alksandar Filipov Makedonski. At the time Philip was busy unifying the Greeks under his leadership and Alexander was conuering the then known world for Hellenism, the Slavs, respectfully, had not even entered the world arena and had no concept of what or where Macedonia was, leading quiet lives around the Pripjet swamps at the convergence of Modern Poland, Ukraine and Byelorussia. And no pharaonic sized, 60ft bronze horse with "Aleksandar Makedonski" on top of it, in the middle of "Makedonija Square" in Skopje, the capital of the "Former Yugoslav Republic of Makedonija" is ever going to change this sober fact.
Clarifying Plutarch's "Parallel Lives" on Alexander and the Macedonians - Part 2
We will let others ponder at the mind bungling puzzle Plutarch threw at Gandeto's lap. I, for one, would think it incomprehensible if I had read, for example, that the Roman general Scipio Africanus (the one who defeated Hannibal at the battle of Zema) would have rejoiced being "encouraged by this prophesy" if, while attacking Carthage, he had found a tablet prophesizing that the hegemony of the Carthaginians "would one day be destroyed by the Greeks"...and not by the Romans! So, then, what was Alexander thinking?
Clarifying Plutarch's "Parallel Lives" on Alexander and the Macedonians - Part 1
But since this dichotomy of "Greeks" and "Macedonians" in most texts on ancient Macedonia is a fact that fuells the Skopjan ultra-nationalist flames about "Aleksandar Makedonski" being a Slavonic Czar of the Ancient "Makedonci" (and the equally Slavonic Filip Makedonski, the good slayer of the bad Greeks), both, supposedly unrelated to Greeks, let's hear from professor Ian Worthington, whose biography Philip II of Macedonia was recently (2008) published by Yale University. It is under the chapter "Ethnicity and Social Snobbery, page 8: "However, let me say that I believe there is enough evidence and reasoned theory to indicate that the Macedonians were Greek and so Greek-speaking: they simply spoke a local dialect, just as there were different dialects in different parts of Greece. It was the Macedonian dialect that Greeks could not understand. Let me repeat from Chapter 1 that when I refer to "Greeks" in this book, I mean the people who lived south of Mount Olympus, and when I refer to "Macedonians" I mean those living to its north. I do so only for the sake of convenience."
Which Macedonia Plays Up Past Glory?
"Alexander conquered the world," he added. "Would you ever give up something like that? I don´t think so." As a Greek Macedonian, from historic Macedonia, in northern Greece, the homeland of Macedodians, of Philip II, Aristotle and Alexander the Great, not Yugoslav Dardania, the land of Illyrians, Triballi and Dardanians, I can't help but somehow and wholeheartedly agree with him...
National Geographic's "Now you see it - Now you don't" MACEDONIA magic trick!
The illusion of scientific objectivity and fallacious sense of political impartiality by the National Geographic is amply documented in all its State-Department-line-tailing, narrow minded "geopolitics Über Alles" apotheosis!
Slavic Elements in...Homer? - Part 3
Petrus Invictus, a.k.a. Perica Sardzoski, a.k.a. Pero, a.k.a. Petro, a.k.a. John Donne is only one of a long series of Skopjan pseudo-scientists from the Former Yugoslav Republic of Makedonija and the Slavomacedonian Diaspora, who try to make a pointless connection between the Slavic speaking inhabitants of FYROM and the Hellenic-speaking ancient Macedonians. To make such an unlikely thesis credible, they have to A. De-Hellenize the ancient Macedonians and "prove" that their language was Slavonic and not related to Greek and, B. make the case that it was not the Slavic tribes that arrived into the Byzantine Balkans after the 7th century AD, but it was the other way around: that the original home of the Slavs was Northern Greece, Macedonia, and that it was instead some imaginary Slavomacedonians of the ancient past who supposedly colonized the areas now inhabited by the Slavs, world-wide.
Slavic Elements in...Homer?
In other words, what we being told here is that somehow, Homer was sitting with his Slavomakedonci buddies and both sides were singing, drinking slibovitsa, Homer singing in Greek, while the others, his mentors, in Slavomakedonci, and of course, the language of the original author of the epics of Iliad and Odyssey , Homeric Greek, "must have been influenced by all those" (i.e. his ancient Slavomakedonci drinking buddies, whose work he was stealing and translating) "who have participated in the process of poetry singing"!
Slavic Elements in...Homer? - Part 2
The man known in the internet as Petrus Invictus, a.k.a. Perica Sardzoski, a.k.a. Pero, a.k.a. Petro, a.k.a. John Donne has come up with a "theory" which claims there are certain words in Homer that men like Tashko Belchev, Odisej Belchevski, Risto Stefov, Aleksandar Donski and himself have found in the Iliad and Odyssey that are obviously…Slavic, therefore…Slavomacedonian! This, they claim, is what "proves" that Homer must have copied some Slavic bards who, of course, lived in Macedonia before the "African" / "Egyptosemitic" Greeks ever showed up in history. This was the original theory, but since nobody sat down to expose their lunacy about Homer being a copycat of the imaginary Slavonic bards more than 1500 years before Slavic ethne ever made their appearance in history, they decided they had a few rein to move a step further: Homer was not a Greek copycat of prehistoric Slavic poetry, after all. Now that Petrus Invictus had time to reflect on this issue a bit longer, he decided that Homer was actually a Slav himself, after all. What was his proof? No proof is necessary, just pure hot air hallucinations: "another view", "new theories" and (obviously!) zero documentation.
SLAVIC HOMER IN SKOPJE & assorted Balkan fables: the case of the Slavic Trojans
Since we already checked the works of Homer and Herodotus, lets us leave the assorted nuts out of the mix and go back to Professor Eugene Borza for a moment. We will consult him not on the Slavic nature of the Trojan-ovskis or the one breasted proto-Slavianke Amazon-ovas, but something simpler, to talk about the ethnic nature of the Macedonians, since there is the juice of the matter and the reason why such hillarious pseudo-scholarly articles are being promoted in the Slavomacedonian ultranationalist websites: "Our understanding of the Macedonians' emergence into history is confounded by two events: the establishment of the Macedonians as an identifiable ethnic group, and the foundation of their ruling house. The "highlanders" or "Makedones" of the mountainous regions of western Macedonia are derived from northwest Greek stock; they were akin both to those who at an earlier time may have migrated south to become the historical "Dorians", and to other Pindus tribes who were the ancestors of the Epirotes or Molossians. That is, we may suggest that northwest Greece provided a pool of Indo-European speakers of Proto-Greek from which were drawn the tribes who later were known by different names as they established their regional identities in separate parts of the country... First, the matter of the Hellenic origins of the Macedonians: Nicholas Hammond's general conclusion (though not the details of his arguments) that the origin of the Macedonians lies in the pool of proto-Greek speakers who migrated out of the Pindus mountains during the Iron Age, is acceptable."
Amazingly Amusing Musings on the Slavomacedonian language
The exposing of the hoax in all the assorted "Musings" and their related nonsense on which we have wasted precious time finding the documentation to prove the moronic fallacy in them, must be clearly viewed in this context. The Balkans will never find a moment of peace and prosperity for as long as national irredentism, ethnic hatred and intolerance are being exploited internally by corrupt ultra-nationalist regimes and externally by self serving foreign powers (and their front men: the Soros – funded NGO´s are notorious in Skopje for this) all of whom use them for perpetuating artificial divisions and through them perpetual control of that perennial powder keg, the Balkans and its numerous weak links, Bosnia, Kosovo and FYROM, among others.
Can Classical Mythology be "explained" through the use of Slavomacedonian vocabulary?
Hermogenes Cratylus, whom you see here, Socrates, says that everything has a right name of its own, which comes by nature, and that a name is not whatever people call a thing by agreement, just a piece of their own voice applied to the thing, but that there is a kind of inherent correctness in names, which is the same for all men, [383b] both Greeks and barbarians. So I ask him whether his name is in truth Cratylus, and he agrees that it is. "And what is Socrates' name?" I said. "Socrates," said he. "Then that applies to all men, and the particular name by which we call each person is his name?" And he said, "Well, your name is not Hermogenes1, even if all mankind call you so." Plato, Cratylos, 383b
Macedonian names and makeDONSKI pseudo-linguistics: The case of the names Mita and the Mushki
"Modern Slavs, both Bulgarians and Macedonians, cannot establish a link with antiquity, as the Slavs entered the Balkans centuries after the demise of the ancient Macedonian kingdom. Only the most radical Slavic factions—mostly émigrés in the United States, Canada, and Australia—even attempt to establish a connection to antiquity... Eugene Borza, "Macedonia Redux", University of California Press, 1999. It is precisely in their attempt to create a non existing connection with antiquity that the pseudo-Makedonists reach the crescendo of their irrationality, achieving scholarly absurdity. It is in the prolific writings of the FYROM folk personality and "historian" ("I am highly educated historian and a writer from European country Republic of Macedonia") professor Aleksandar Donski that Skopje's pseudo-Makedonist regime has found its purest celebrity propagandist. He is the author of, among many other books, "The Genealogical Lineage between Certain American Presidents and the Dynasty of Alexander the Great and Other Macedonian Dynasties". "The book [we are told] uncovers indisputable evidence and offers proof that no fewer than eleven U.S. presidents have been partially of ancient Macedonian ancestry: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Monroe, William Taft, Grover Cleveland, Warren Harding, Franklin Roosevelt, Richard Nixon, George Herbert Walker Bush, and the current president George Walker Bush." While we try to hold our tears of excitement and jubilation back, having just been informed that George W. Bush is a blue-blooded descendant of the Makedonski dynasty of that fabled "Proto-Slavic" Czar Aleksandar Veliki (yes, they mean Alexander the Great!), we will instead concern ourselves here with the Phrygians and their king Midas, their linguistic and historical developments and how they tie in to the Greeks and to their language or to the Slavic - Bulgarian speaking populations in the lower Balkans
Shoe thrown against Greek P.M. lands on Skopjan head!
Risto Stefov and the MAKNEWS bozos are Jubilant: The Macedonian revolt they have been dreaming about in Greece ("wow, I would never have thought that I would see the day when a Macedonian from Lerin throws a shoe at the Greek Prime Minister!") has already started: LONG LIVE the Macedonian activists!!! Two Macedonian activists, that we know off rose up and threw their shoes against the Athens for what they perceived as policies of appeasement to Gruevski and for selling off Macedonia to the Skopjans!
FYROM and Greece: Preconditions for an agreement of lasting peace and good neighborly relations.
The damage that the Slavomacedonian expatriate community has done, comfortably sitting in their Toronto, Indiana or Melbourne suburbs, to their home country, FYROM over the years, demanding an idiotically harder and harder position against Greece is immeasurable. Skopje's body politic has for years been hijacked by the kinds of Nikola Gruevski and Todor Petrov who are implementing their criminally self defeating ultra-nationalist policies on the young nation, leading it from one blind alley to another and from one humiliating defeat to another. Lasting Peace, good neighborly relations and reconciliation are indeed needed, but it takes two to tango and they obviously cannot be achieved by people who make ludicrously unsupported claims of "genocide" or "exodus" and demand "apology" and "war reparations" for the war of the Greeks against the Turks and Bulgarians during the first and second Balkan wars of 1912 and 1913. Every nation, even the Turks, at some point or another like to pretend that they have been the victim of everyone else. The problem with Nikola Gruevski, Todor Petrov and VMRO-DPMN is that they have overstretched the net of their ultra-nationalist mythology and ethnic hatred against the Greeks just a little bit too far and they are now trapped in it!
Greece´s irresponsible neighbors and how Greek policies benefitted Bulgaria and FYROM
Why Skopje should not be biting the hand that feeds it. The article Richard Rahn of the CATO institute would have written his article on the Washington Times, had he chosen to stay close to the facts. It is not Greece's fault that FYROM has chosen its self destructive path to confrontation with the only country that has to date supported its third world economy through legal (investments in manufacturing, banking and telecommunications), semi-legal (Casino gambling) and borderline-legal or outright illegal (prostitution) cash infusions. And it is most definitely not the fault of the Greeks that the only flourishing sectors of Skopjan economy are the illicit ones.

A MACEDONIAN IN HELLENISTIC EGYPT : MACEDON...Because I am Greek!
Despite the rivers of Yugoslavian ink that have been wasted in the attempt to portray the Skopje Yugoslavs as true "Macedonians", a Hellenistic legal document, a papyrus (UPZ18) written 2173 years ago, comes out to shine its light on the historical truth, flushing the outlandish pseudo-historical claims of Skopjean pseudo-scientists such as the sorry likes of Professors Tendov and Boshevski or Aleksandar Donski down the Nile and into the sewers of Alexandria. Scripta Manent, the Latins said, "the written word remains", and it speaks loud and clear about the Greek ethnicity of the Ancient Macedonians: τὸ Ἕλληνά με εἶναι / I am Greek, tells us Πτολεμαίος Γλαυκίου, Μακεδών / Ptolemaios son of Glaucias, the Macedonian, through the ages.
The Archaic Greek Temple of Aphrodite in Thessalonike, Macedonia, Greece
The temple of Aphrodite in the center of Thessalonike speaks louder about the Hellenic nature of this ancient Macedonian city that bears the name of Alexander the Great's half sister Θεσσαλονίκη/Thessaloniki than any Skopjean loud screams and cries about a supposed proto-Slavic "Makedonka" Солун/Solun.
Protecting the brand name "Macedonia" - lessons from Byzantine Diplomacy
If Athens, forgetting the timeless lessons of John II Doukas Vatatzis' reply to Pope Gregory 8th, relents under "friendly" external pressure and accepts to share the name "Macedonia" by recognizing Skopje as "North Macedonia" it will be committing a world class IRREVERSIBLE blunder against its own historically understood ( http://macedonia-evidence.org/obama-letter.html ) self-interests.

Not that a list of fifty five names would prove anything about the ethnicity of any people, but since they are brought forward, we will study them in depth. We will expose each and every name on his "Makedonski" name list to be a naive attempt at Yugo-Slavic folk etymology at best, or a south Balkan nationalist propaganda fraud, emanating from Skopje, at worst. Nana is an ancient Anatolian name tied with the Phrygian myth of Attis and Agdistis. While this myth, which incorporated the cult of Cybele, the Great Mother, had been incorporated into the Greek pantheon, from Macedonia to the Peloponnese and beyond, Nana was not a Macedonian name by any stretch of imagination. Professor Donski´s allegations that Nana of Anatolia is somehow connected to the Slavomacedonians of Yugoslavia, now FYROM-Skopje, is nothing else but delusional ultra-nationalist mythology, the type of which the regime in Skopje is infamous for.

We will expose each and every name on his "Macedonski" name list to be a naive attempt at Yugo-Slavic folk etymology at best, or a south Balkan nationalist propaganda fraud, emanating from Skopje, at worst. The Perustae were an Illyrian tribe completely unrelated to the ancient Macedonians. Their tribal name is most certainly Illyrian and its etymology unknown to us and for sure it is not derived from "perustija" which is in itself a Greek loanword (from Pyrostia: Pyr-Pyros+Estia)into the Slavomacedonian dialect of FYROM. The Name Perushka, which outwardly appears to mean "of feathers, feathery" is actually an ancient Slavonic name meaning the "First one, the Prime one", and connected linguistically to Perun, the prime Slavonic God. The connections Aleksandar Donski is attempting to make between the Illyrian tribal name Perustae, the Greek word Pyrostia and the Slavonic name Perushka, are ficticious, at best and none has anything to do with ancient Macedonia. His points are wholly and utterly unsupported, unhistorical and undocumented, like his government's assertions of a connection between the modern Slavomacedonians on the one hand and the Greek speaking ancient Macedonians on the other.
Slavomacedonian male names of FYROM-Skopje
Instead of trying to "prove" an unprovable and wholly fictitious Balkan and Macedonian autochthony, using the ancient Greek names of the ancient Macedonians as a fake spearhead (foolishly attempting to explain them as Slavonic in nature), the Skopian propagandists should at some point make an effort to gain some crumbs of their long ago lost seriousness by sitting down and trying to explain the flood of Hellenic names in their own onomastics: more than one in three names, fully 35.27% of Slavomacedonian names are Hellenic in origin. A whopping 35.27 of the Slavomacedonian male names, proves the point as to who influenced whom, after all. As far as onomastics go, Greek names account for over 95% of the ancient Macedonian names, over 95% of modern Macedonian Greek names (the rest being Biblical and Latin) and over 35% of modern Slavomacedonian male names. Slavonic names account for almost 44% of all modern Slavomacedonian male names while there is not a single one, I repeat, NOT A SINGLE ONE Slavonic name in the modern Greek (Macedonian or other) onomastics whether ancient (that would be a historical joke) or in the modern Greek one.

Sitas is a Thracian name that most probably means "the one of the wheat seed". Sitas has been attested in both the literary and the epigraphic record as a typical ancient name of Thracian kings and warriors and there is absolutely no chance that this would have been a Slavic name, as Aleksandar Donski claims without any trace of documentation, and despite historical evidence to the contrary.
The latest from North Disneyland - Can it be True?
The names "Macedonia" and the more official "Republic of Macedonia" are intrinsically containing the seeds of irredentism against the Northern Greek provinces of Macedonia. The Skopjans do not hide this. Anyone that goes in the internet and visits FYROMian sites can read and hear this clearly and loudly. Does the name "Republic of Northern Macedonia" solve this issue? To anyone with more than half an ounce of brain, it is obvious that a name such as "NORTHERN MACEDONIA" NOT ONLY DOES NOT SOLVE BUT TO THE CONTRARY IT AGGRAVATES THE PROBLEM of Skopjan Irredentism! The "independent" Republic of "Northern Macedonia" will then be able to seek more forcefully its "reunification" with the "enslaved" part of a perceived "southern" Macedonia...isn't this CLEAR and OBVIOUS to everyone? IS IT IN THE LONG TERM INTERESTS OF THE PEOPLE OF FYROM (Albanian, Greek, and Slavic) AND THE PEOPLE OF GREECE, to be led into such a half-baked idiotic solution that ALREADY CONTAINS THE SEEDS for THE NEXT ROUND OF DISPUTES?
The satrapal appointments in Alexander's empire and FYROM's Slavomacedonians
When the great Macedonian was trailblazing through Asia, he needed to secure his newly conquered lands. To do what Alexander achieved was no simple task and it was not simply a matter of brute military force. Alexander was no mere military genius, but he had an acute political mind. He had to create allies and strengthen alliances as he was crushing adversaries and was weakening potential enemies everywhere he went. On strategic locations and crossroads, wherever he needed, he established garrisons. In the garrisons he would leave his veterans and the wounded and later on he actively brought people from Greece, merchants, soldiers and farmers alike. He was never cut off from his base and his base was Macedonia primarily and the rest of Greece, secondarily. From Macedonia he was constantly receiving fresh recruits, as tired veterans were returning home and were being exchanged with younger and newly trained soldiers. From the rest of Greece, beyond his immediate control (the Greek cities beyond the Macedonian kingdom were Alexander´s allies, not his subjects) he was receiving mercenaries. He always kept his lines of communications open. Even while marching through the Gedrosia desert he was never completely cut off, as the Stasanor incident descriptively reveals. Alexander was an empire builder, not some idiotic narrow minded provincialist. Josif G. assures his readers that "…one can reliably measure the degree of Alexander´s own commitment to his Macedoniism[sic]. He was first and foremost the King of Macedon." I beg to disagree: Deng Xiaoping´s famous aphorism "Black cat, white cat, who cares as long as it can catch mice" was vigorously applied by Alexander to the fullest, twenty three hundred and fifty years before Deng Xiaoping: Alexander always looked for three things, talent, bravery and loyalty. Nothing else mattered to him in a man. No man, Greek or other, that was not under Alexander´s direct service and control ever received a satrapal appointment. The easiest way to become a general or an administrator was to be in the king´s inner circle, to be the king´s companion, his hetairos/εταίρος. Most, if not all (Cleomens for sure not, but he had other things in his favor, intimate knowledge of Egypt and its people being the most important one), of the appointees were in fact Alexander´s hetairoi, his companions, men in his inner circle in other words men who fought next to him in battle, men who drank together with him in the symposia. To be the king´s companion someone had to be the son of an allied prince or king or the son of a Macedonian baron or some notable. It was from this inner circle of companions that Alexander chose his army commanders and future empire administrators. Administrative talent "head-hunting" was still unknown in the ancient world. If you knew Alexander and you belonged to his inner circle, and he saw something that he liked about you, you had a good chance to get a placement advance in his empire. Being the best orator, administrator or army general in Syracuse, in Corinth or in Athens, and a continent away from Alexander, you simply had no chance to get anywhere with him.
Years ahead of Tito, the Bulgarians were already trying to invent a "Macedonian" language back in 1905
Pseudomakedonism, is the cult of some Slavic speaking believers from Skopje who proclaim their direct descent from Aristotle, Philip II and Alexander the Great, among other Greek Macedonians. This lunatic and reactionary ethno-politicul cult has nothing to do with the legitimate aspirations of the vast majority of honest working Slavic and other people who live in the Former Yugoslav Republic misnamed by Tito as Makedonija. Instead, it has everything to do with the illegitimate aspirations for wealth and political control by the political elite, part of the old Yugoslavic nomenclature, of Skopje, and their ex-expatriate co-believers (mainly in Canada and Australia) who are the original creators of this cult. This pseudo-makedonist cult, avidly represented by the governing party (VMRO-DPMNE) in Skopje at the moment, with its virulent medieval attacks on Greeks, Greece and anything Hellenic has been the nemesis of the poor people of this small landlocked state and the biggest hurdle to their progress out of misery and dependency. This article explores the methods used by pseudo-makedonist propagandists.
MACEDONIAN NAME GAMES and the future of FYROM's European integration
This article was written in August of 2009 and it was originally published in the Slovak language under the title "Macedónsky zápas o názov a budúcnosť európskej integrácie bývalej Juhoslovanskej republiky Macedónsko" in the October 2009 edition of the Slovak political and diplomatic magazine "Euro-Atlantic Quarterly".
Falsifying History - Fabricating a Fake Identity: Skopjan pseudo-Makedonism on YAUNA - YAVAN - IONIANS
Once someone rejects truth and accepts falsehood, the search for explanations to cover his falsehood becomes essential. This can lead to the creation of an alternate reality that attempts to explain what then becomes unexplainable. The pseudo-Makedonist regime from Skopje has elevated falsehood to the level of science, and it has correspondingly reduced science to being a contemptible paramour of their repulsive policies of hatred, bigotry and intolerance. To understand these policies we need to look at the collective ethnic identity crisis plaguing this southern tip of former Yugoslavia. Instead of accepting a priori the premise of ethnic cooperation and inclusion of all ethnic groups as the best long term survival and prosperity policy for this multiethnic Balkan enclave, and the nurturing of harmonious relations with its external neighbors, we see the train in Skopje speeding in the exactly opposite direction: Ultranationalist exclusivism and deleterious ethnic hatred, of the kind that bled the Balkans in the genocidal wars following the break-up of Yugoslavia, are pursued in an attempt to promote a threatened self-group anxiety and paranoia among the Slavic-speaking populations of FYROM. Albanians and Bulgarians are portrayed as the adversarial "enemy other" who are conspiring the destruction of "Makedonija". The most venomous and malicious attacks by far are reserved for Greece and the Greeks who are seen as evil incarnate, the eternal enemies of Macedonia and the Macedonians. The usurpation of the name Macedonia for the lands of FYROM, which was only partially part of historic Macedonia, and the name Macedonians as an exclusive ethnic determinant by just one of the groups that lives in parts of historic Macedonia, has now led Skopje to this: The Bulgarian-dialect-speaking modern descendants of the Draguvites/Dragovici/Драговити, Sagudates/Sagudaci/Сагудати, Bersites/Brsjaci/Берзити and other Slavic tribes that invaded Byzantine lands during the middle ages, by adopting the name "Macedonian" as an ethnic term are now portraying themselves as being the autochthonous "Macedonians", direct descendents of the ancient Macedonians of Aristotle, Philip II, Alexander the Great, while the Greek Macedonians, who are the living cultural and linguistic continuum of the ancient Macedonians are being depicted as alien, African and Asian invaders. This is a typical article, one of the thousands produced en masse by poorly paid propagandists from FYROM that pollute popular internet sites with gross misinformation intended to fool the less informed (especially college and high school students who are trying to finish a history term paper on Macedonia but are not too methodical in their research, or people who are in general far removed from Greek and Roman History and the Classics and can thus fall easy prey to this kind of counterfeit pseudo-academic rubbish). Who were the Ionians, also known as Yauna, Yunan, Yavan, Yunani, etc? What was the relation of the Yauna, the Ionian Greeks and the Yauna Takabara, the Ionians with the Shield-shaped hat according to the ancient Persians, Hindus and Hebrews? What does this issue have to do with the ultra-nationalist ethnic intolerance, bigotry and hatred simmering in Skopje against the Greeks and various enemy-others?

Macedonian names and makeDonski pseudo-linguistics: The case of the name Zaika
"Modern Slavs, both Bulgarians and Macedonians, cannot establish a link with antiquity, as the Slavs entered the Balkans centuries after the demise of the ancient Macedonian kingdom. Only the most radical Slavic factions—mostly émigrés in the United States, Canada, and Australia—even attempt to establish a connection to antiquity... Eugene Borza, "Macedonia Redux", University of California Press, 1999. It is precisely in their attempt to create a non existing connection with antiquity that the pseudomakedonists reach the crescendo of their irrationality, achieving scholarly absurdity. Bush is a blue-blooded descendant of the Makedonski dynasty of that fabled "Proto-Slavic" Czar Aleksandar Veliki (yes, they mean Alexander the Great!), we will instead concern ourselves here with the list of the ancient names that professor Aleksandar Donski considers to be Slavo-macedonian. Not that a list of fifty five names would prove anything about the ethnicity of any people, but since they are brought forward, we will study them in depth. We will expose each and every name on his "Macedonski" name list to be a naive attempt at Yugo-Slavic folk etymology at best, or a south Balkan nationalist propaganda fraud, emanating from Skopje, at worst. Zaika is a Thracian female name that probably means "the one of Zeus, God", though our knowledge of the now extinct Thracian language is very limited and this makes our final assessment on the exact etymology of many Thracian names inconclusive. Obviously it has no relation or linguistic connection to the Slavonic word for rabbit/hare.

The name is derived from the Greek verb verb smileuo-mileuo, meaning "to use a "mile"/"smile"=chisel", i.e. to chisel, to carve marble, stone or wood. The Slavonic name Milo "the sweet" and "dear" one, has no connection to the ancient Greek Milon.

Is there a Rift between Greece and the Former Yugoslav Republic of "Macedonia" on Alexander?
...the extension of the geographic term "Macedonia" to cover southern Yugoslavia cannot. Even in the late 19th century, this misuse implied unhealthy territorial aspirations. The same motivation is to be seen in school maps that show the pseudo-greater Macedonia, stretching from Skopje to Mt. Olympus and labeled in Slavic. The same map and its claims are in calendars, bumper stickers, bank notes, etc., that have been circulating in the new state ever since it declared its independence from Yugoslavia in 1991. Why would a poor land-locked new state attempt such historical nonsense? Why would it brazenly mock and provoke its neighbor? However one might like to characterize such behavior, it is clearly not a force for historical accuracy, nor for stability in the Balkans. It is sad that the United States of America has abetted and encouraged such behavior. We call upon you, Mr. President, to help - in whatever ways you deem appropriate - the government in Skopje to understand that it cannot build a national identity at the expense of historic truth. Our common international society cannot survive when history is ignored, much less when history is fabricated. Eugene Borza, "Macedonia Redux", University of California Press, 1999. A lot of water has gone under the bridge since E.Borza wrote this statement. By now, pseudo-Makedonism has moved from the coffee houses of Toronto and Sydney to the Government buildings in Skopje. It has become the tool of convenience in building an ultra-nationalist cult for the perpetuation of the quasi-fascistic rule of the VMRO party. Nikola Gruevski is following on the steps of the late Saparmurat Niyazov the "Turkmenbashi", "leader of the Turkmen", of Turkmenistan, and his well tried methods of building the cult of a Central Asian type "President for Life", FYROM's own Makedonbashi.
Macedonian names and makeDonski pseudo-linguistics: The case of the name Diplaios - Diplaos
It is in the prolific writings of the FYROM folk personality ("I am highly educated historian and a writer from European country Republic of Macedonia") but untrained in History "historian" professor Aleksandar Donchevic (Donski) that Skopje's pseudomakedonist regime has found its purest celebrity propagandist. He is the author of, among many others, "The Genealogical Lineage between Certain American Presidents and the Dynasty of Alexander the Great and Other Macedonian Dynasties". Bush is a blue blooded descendant of the Mapedonski dynasty of the fabled Czar of the Proto-Slavs Aleksandar Veliki ("the Great" in Bugarski) the Makedonski, what will instead concern us here is the list of the ancient names that professor Aleksandar Donchevic (Donski) considers to be Slavomacedonian. Not that a list of fifty five names would prove anything about the ethnicity of any people, but since they are brought forward, we will study them. We will expose each and every name on his quassi-macedonian name list to be a naive attempt at yugo-Slavic folk etymology at best, or a south Balkan nationalist propaganda fraud emanating from FYROM at worst.

The Greek name Delios (in Latin transliteration Delius) is derived from the name of the island Delos, where Apollo and Artemis were born, hence Apollon Delios and Artemis Delia. Delus is a female Thracian name, epigraphicaly attested in two Latin inscriptions in the Dardanian city of Scupi, modern Skopje/Skopia, the capital city of the ex-Yugoslav state that is Slavic-Makedonija. Delus is unrelated to Greek/Macedonian Delios.
