The Meaning of the Last Name "Suvorov"
Alexander Vasilyevich Suvorov (1729 – 1780) was the last Generalissimo of the Russian Empire. On the maternal side, Suvorov`s last name was "Manukov", originated from the common Armenian name "Manuk". However, the source of his father´s last name "Suvorov" has been unclear. This article sheds some light about the origin of the last name "Suvorov."

Nané was a pagan goddess in Armenian mythology. Her temple, located in Historical Armenia, was destroyed in the beginning of the 4th century. Her followers were pursued, but many survived in the Balkans countries in Europe. These followers were some of the ex- Paulician Armenians who were mostly islamized and later known as Pomaks.

In contemporary times, the Bachkovo Monastery is one of the most visited Bulgarian monasteries. The 11 c. A.D. Iberian monks from this monastery were neither Southwestern Europeans nor Caucasians. They were citizens of the Byzantine´s province Iberia, mainly from Armenian origin, who worshiped in the monastery of Petritzos (Bachkovo) founded by the Byzantine general Gregory Pakourianos.
