UNNECESSARY SACRIFICES
I sometimes wonder how many animals are sacrificed to feed us all. I also questioned how much food people actually wasted so I did some research and was stunned by what I discovered. Animals Agenda reports that in the United States alone, “billions of animals are slaughtered for food each year b...
Thank Your Lucky Stars
Everyday someone has a gripe, but is your complaint really all that troublesome or are you making a mountain out of a molehill? You could be in someone else’s shoes, someone less fortunate. In a world where people have become so competitive, we tend to forget how lucky we really are. Instead...
You Shouldn’t Play With Mother Nature
As we mourn the death of Steve Irwin, The Crocodile Hunter, we are reminded of the dangers of nature. In some cases injuries or death occur by freak accidents and in other cases, it’s negligence on our parts. Even the most highly trained animal handlers take precautions in their work, yet they are...
PULLING THE PLUG ON CYBERSEX
Cybersex is the “new drug” of choice, and sadly enough many have become addicted. The results can be damaging in several aspects of the addicts life. Relationships may perish; they could become distracted at work and may sometimes become disconnected with the real world. Some addicts even go, ...
Escaping the Death Grip of Holy Matrimony!
To wed or not to wed, that is the question. Many couples find committing to one another rather fulfilling while others want to sow their oats forever. For those who prefer to stay single, they have escaped what I like to call the “death grip of holy matrimony”. Some of the reasons people divorc...
Our Love/Hate Relationship With Wal-Mart
Wal-Mart is not only one of the leading, but also most profitable store chains. Why, because we, the consumer, made it so. So, why then are some of us partial to it and some of us snubbing it? For starters, who doesn’t love one-stop shopping? You can get oil for your car, dinner and a birthday...
Do You Have A Pill For That?
Walking into a pharmacy is like walking into a candy shop. There are so many pills and medicines to choose from. Is there anything they don’t have? If you walk down the aisle of a drug store (so properly dubbed), you’ll see a variety of medicines for your symptoms. It’s a wonderful concept kno...
REALITY OVERKILL, HOW MUCH CAN WE TAKE?
Reality shows have developed into big hits, but how much can we tolerate of this constant bombardment of competitiveness and voyeurism? I was astonished to see that over 150 reality shows have, or are, being aired, from “The Amazing Race” to “Workout”. I couldn’t fathom what it was that appealed...
Kissing Johnny Depp
Ever wonder what it would be like to be kissed by Johnny Depp? Well, let me tell you. It was a hot summer night and I was lying on the bed wearing a white lacy gown (I don’t know why, I hate anything lacy). Johnny Depp entered the room looking sexier than ever. His white, pirate style shirt was ...
Christmas: Is It In Your Heart Or In Your Wallet?
I remember Christmas when I was a child; I was pleased with whatever I received. Today, I take note to what kids ask for and it simply blows my mind. Whatever happened to practical gifts or gifts of sentiment? Have our children of the future forgotten what Christmas is truly about? What are we, ...
Thanksgiving and Giving Thanks
We often associate Thanksgiving with turkey dinners, football games and cornucopias (also known as a horn of plenty, symbolizing abundance). What we neglect to remember is how Thanksgiving emerged and at what cost. Historians have documented the arrival of the Mayflower Voyage and how back in 1620...
Halloween-The Good, The Bad & The Scary
Halloween is becoming increasingly popular, but what intrigues us about this ghoulish holiday? Whether it?s the candy, costumes or parties, Halloween isn?t just for the kids anymore! Everyone loves passing out candy to children donning the latest costumes. Adults enjoy throwing costume parties, t...
Racism Remains in America
Racism, doctrine, belief, or assumption that inherited biological differences cause some human subpopulations to be fundamentally different from, or superior to, others. (MSN Encarta). I agree that all cultures are different, but not because of color, it’s due to one’s environment. Italians are di...
SEX, SEX & MORE SEX!
See, I got your attention didn?t I, especially you men out there? Why? Sex sells and that?s what several companies are using to promote their products. From Paris Hilton?s sensual burger ad to the button popping mama for Axis cologne. These commercials are geared toward male audiences because adv...
OUR FAVORITE SEASON
Autumn, one of the most celebrated seasons of all! Residents from the North to the South, particularly the Northeast, welcome fall and all it’s charming pleasures. From the breathtaking foliage tours to festivals to sports, no one can deny all that autumn has to offer. If you’ve never witnessed ...
Atheists Rights – Are They Changing History?
For as long as I can remember, the Pledge of Allegiance was recited in schools without reluctance. Now, atheists are altering this tradition with support from the courts. For years atheists have expressed their uneasiness with children in public schools having to recite the words “one nation under...
It Must Be A Full Moon
The Online Etymology Dictionary defines lunatic as (adj.) - c.1290, "affected with periodic insanity, dependent on the changes of the moon,". The noun meaning "lunatic person" is first recorded 1377. According to the Farmer’s Almanac, on September 17th, the heavens produced a full harvest moon. Des...
And The Winner Is......
If any of you had the opportunity to watch the 2005 Emmy Awards, I'm sure you were, let's say, disappointed. Several nominations were well deserved, but other worthwhile shows should've received much more attention. There were a few segments of the show worth watching, such as the Peter Jennings tr...
Katrina - The Great Divide
Katrina is a name I've always disliked for it's whining undertones, not to mention the fact it sounds like Purina; but now it’s caused our country to become a divided nation, or has it? We’ve endured natural disasters in the past, and citizens were able to pull together and move on. This misfortun...
Who’s Caring For The Children?
I was shocked, as most people were to read about the children in Ohio who were sleeping in crates. How were the Gravelle’s able to adopt 11 children from different counties and states? Ohio News Now reported that in 2001, Sharon Gravelle wanted full custody of the eight children they had at the ti...
Domestic Violence: Where Do Women Stand?
Twenty years ago the first women's shelter opened it's doors to battered women, and in 1994, the "Violence Against Women Act” was adopted. This month the Act expires and Congress must make a decision on whether or not to reauthorize it. What is there to think about? Though statistics show domes...
Cloning - To Create and Destroy
I can remember, as many of you do, when the first mammal was cloned in 1996; "Dolly" the sheep out of Scotland. When news broke the world was in awe, or were we? Many believed this to be one of the greatest scientific breakthroughs, while others viewed it as an atrocity against nature. July 2006 ...
BROTHERLY LOVE NO MORE FOR T.O.
The controversy surrounding Terrell Owens and the Philadelphia Eagles has cast a dark cloud over the City of Brotherly Love. The fans, and certainly Donovan McNabb, welcomed Owens to their city, but all must wonder what went wrong. T.O. has been suspended from practice, verbally bashed McNabb and ...
