'Doing It Differently'
In many such countries entrepreneurs often rush headlong into the ways of modernism not caring much for national values and beliefs that are so deep rooted that there arise conflicts among business and people.
The Great Lotus Stupa
The Lumbini Development Trust area is divided into three zones, 1. Sacred Garden Zone 2. Monastic Zone, that includes the East Zone where followers of Theravat Buddhism (Myanmar, Sri Lanka, India, etc.) have built monasteries and the West Zone where countries with predominant followers of Mahayana branch of Buddhism (Vietnam, Kampuchea, Bhutan, Japan etc.) as well as followers of Tibetan Buddhism (like, Drigyul Kagyul Sect) have built monasteries and 3. Educational and Culture Zone that includes a research area.
A Feast Fit For Kings
As can be imagined, a ´Newari Bhoj´, particularly the ´Lapate Bhoj´, is not one to be taken lightly. A lot of preparation goes into the making of one and the proper conduct of a ´Newari Bhoj´ is a backbreaking affair, as service will have to be continuous and efficient. Therefore if invited to one, guests shouldn´t mind if they have to give a lot of their time. No doubt it will be highly enjoyable, to say the least.
YOU, THE INNOCENT
You have a child buried deep inside your psyche, and this is the real you, before all those polluting effects took over to make you ashamed to admit even to yourself that you loved yourself more then.
Deprogramming
The belief that one´s religion is better than the other´s or that one´s religion's gospels go against the grain of others' has become truly a cause for antipathy, antagonism and most often an excuse to go to war.
Playing The Game
Even that news item about that crooked businessman being charged with corruption has political overtones, no wonder the story is so juicy. Millions of fanatics are caught in the throes of politically motivated religious tensions right this minute throughout the world.
The Greatest Test Of Life
Cowards all those who lose. Cowards all those who damn themselves and burn in the pyres of life. For as long as they live and until the moment they die. No matter how much wealth you have acquired, no matter how much charity you have given and no matter how much success you have tasted, you are a failed human if you have not tasted the sweet sensation called love.
The Delhi Metro – Speeding India into the 21st Century
One must conclude that those who designed it, have put in place a Mass Rapid Transit System that has obviously been well-tried and time-tested. Thus, the perfection.
A Dangerous Addiction
Oh I know it's a blessed relief to believe that there is somebody up there. God, we all call him, and no doubt His is a blessed presence in our lives, but is there any need for anybody to go to the extents some of us do to gain his attention?
The Dragon´s Tail
You will be like the dragon without its tail, nostrils flaring fire and smoke, but only an amusing exhibition nonetheless.
First Night Myths
One old Chinese custom required the presentation of the bride's blood stained under garment to the groom's mother to assure her of her new daughter in law's virginity. In Cantonese tradition, a pig would be sent to the bride's mother after the nuptial night and if the pig was in one piece, all was well. If lacerated, a question mark hung on the bride's virginity.
Children of a Lesser God
After the kids had grown too heavy to be camel jockeys, they would be used as forced kidney donors for rich Arabs who needed transplants. If what the leader says has even an iota of truth in it then one must ask, is anybody protecting children's rights in this country?
Mammon Rules
What? You can't do it? Not even if nirvana is guaranteed? Well I guess you are only mortal and will forever remain one. It's not a bad thing really because besides stopping people from thinking you're crazy, you'll probably also be saved from being jailed, as burning legal tender is supposed to be a crime.
Yoga in Nepal
I did wonder then about this – when none of the exercises were in any way at all strenuous, where was the need to fall into this drop-dead posture every few minutes?
Wise Words and Worldly Woes
Professor Tiwari is also quite distressed at the so-called post modern architecture being practiced today, and mourns, "This only shows that architects are now culturally deranged."
Meet Nepal
In addition, it is very sad to note that corporate houses and big businesses which do not hesitate to fund football teams and award motorcycles and expensive cars to sportspeople, are yet to sponsor such worthwhile work as part of their much flaunted corporate social responsibility.
Raksha Nepal
Menuka Thapa is the president of two year-old Raksha Nepal, a social service organization that focuses on the plight of girls working in massage parlours in the Valley. With its office in Baghbazar of Kathmandu, Raksha Nepal is doing work that can only be praised in the highest terms. As in many oth...
For the Love of Spices
With so much goodness and so many beneficial uses, is it any wonder then that things that make our lives more interesting are referred to as the 'spice of life'?
Les Antiques de Nepal
Connoisseurs of such ancient objects d´art should also know that the Kathmandu Valley itself is a museum of sorts, and that antiques can be seen in many old houses, courtyards, temples and monasteries.
You and The Rest
If you have things our own way for at least fifty percent of the time, you should be happy. The other fifty percent you should take pragmatically. By doing so you will have mastered the art of Zen, wouldn't you be proud to know?
Soulfully Yours
Shashikala has many admirers, not least of all, within her own artistic fraternity, and is looked upon as somewhat of an ideal by aspiring painters. It is also natural for many to suppose that Shashikala is to some extent a feminist, but no, she is a bit different from the usual pack. "What is independence after all?" she asks. "One should be free in one´s thinking. It is all in the mind and has very little to do with the physical aspects."
A Walk To Remember
Well fed? Well fed indeed and grossly overweight in most cases. My first visit to a WalMart Supercenter I´ll always remember as a grand spectacle of America´s heaviest. Take it from me, an unbiased outsider with a bird´s eye view, this country´s biggest problem is not Iraq or the economy – these will one day be solved, one way or the other – but the populace´s health.
