Despite the dangers presented by the swine flu and the fact that the World Health Organization has raised their threat level to 5 (out of 6). The U.S. government has refused to close our border to Mexico, where the flu has originated and where hundreds of deaths have occurred.

Craigslist officially prohibits ads for prostitution and agreed to crack down on such ads in November 2008, after Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal led a 40-state effort against Craigslist. However, very little if anything has been done to stop the ads.

On Feb. 2, 2009, previously convicted child molester Corey Deen Saunders, 27, pled guilty in a Massachusetts courtroom to raping a six year old boy in 2008, in a public library. At the time of the attack, Saunders was on probation for molesting a seven year old boy. This tragedy could have easily been prevented.

In September 2007, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recalled one million Simplicity brand cribs which were made in China. The recall came after a 6-month-old and a 9-month-old baby became pinned and died in the cribs due to a defect. Several more children became trapped in the cribs but survived.

Bush commuted the sentence of a former Detroit police sergeant who actually escorted major drug shipments into the city. In 1993, James Russell Harris was convicted of cocaine conspiracy, money laundering, and bribery. He was sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Recently, the Norfolk Police Department released a video of the incident in which Brown can be seen pleading with Officer Parks as she tries to explain that she is physically unable to put her hands behind her back. Parks then is seen shooting Brown with his taser and screaming at her to comply. Even as she lie on the ground, Parks continued to shock her.

The way the death penalty is currently administered, renders the punishment rather irrelevant. The average stay on death row in the United States is eleven years. By the time the condemned receives his fate, the crime has long since been forgotten by the public and many of the victims' loved ones have passed away before receiving any closure.
