Todd and Vicki Tiahrt Joined Thousands in Tea Party Rallies across Kansas
Congressman Tiahrt, who is leading the charge against bailouts in Congress with his No More Bailouts resolution, declared it is time to stop using taxpayer money to purchase toxic assets. The Congressman was joined by thousands of participants who chanted, "No more bailouts!" in support of his proposal.
"History tells us that strong economies are built from the ground up, not from the government down," said Tiahrt. "Our current administration and the Democrat leadership in Washington have it wrong. We will not dig ourselves out of this recession by spending hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars bailing out failing corporations and purchasing toxic debts. We need to renew the dream here in America. We need to provide opportunities for our children and grandchildren to live in a stronger more prosperous America."
Vicki Tiahrt thanked tea party participants for their commitment to conservative values and for making time to be a part of this historic movement.
"Here in Kansas we work hard, we pay our taxes, and we make our mortgage payments," she said. "We do not need a bigger federal government telling us what we need and how we should live our lives. You can keep the change, Mr. President."
Congressman Tiahrt also spoke to hundreds of Kansans about his support for the Fair Tax proposal before it was politically expedient.
"I have long been a champion of the Fair Tax because it will bring common-sense to our tax system and boost our economy, not because I believe my support for it would score political points," said Tiahrt. "Our current tax structure punishes success, and we need a different
system. The Fair Tax proposal would help make our economy one of the most attractive places on the globe to do business. Overnight we would create new high-quality jobs and we would see an explosion in demand for our goods and services."
Congressman and Mrs. Tiahrt both said they would carry the messages they heard from thousands of citizens in Kansas to leaders in Washington.
Congressman Tiahrt is the Dean of the Kansas House Congressional Delegation and has served in Congress since 1995.
