Grim future of Pakistan

Joe Fleishman
Recent success of Taliban guerillas in Pakistan has increased tension to its neighbors. Countries like Afghanistan, India and Bangladesh are not taking this matter lightly. They are afraid if Pakistan failed to tackle these Taliban uprising properly it will encourage Taliban guerillas to carry out their operations to its neighbors. This uneasy feeling is already building up in mind of its neighbors. So Pakistan´s neighbors do not want to see it embrace the similar fate of Afghanistan.

Pakistan has always promised to undertake drastic action against these Taliban guerillas. But it never succeeds to keep its promise. Experts believe because of an anti American sentiment is very strong in Pakistan it is a very difficult task for the authorities to stop the guerillas. As a result, Taliban militants are getting stronger, authorities are growing weaker and Taliban´s are capturing new and new areas in a regular basis.

Nuclear-armed Pakistan is not only threat for its neighbors, United States is also worried that if Pakistan loose its grip on Taliban militia –it will impose much greater risk to other countries like US as well.

It is not very clear how the country´s military capability. But it is very clear that things are not very pretty for the well-armed military. Pakistan Police has almost given up the fight. Everyday they are collecting the dead bodies of their colleagues died in bomb blast or sniper attack. Now the military is following their footsteps.

After the terrorist attack on Sri Lankan cricketers last March, Pakistan falls in to more precarious situation. ICC or International Cricket Council has announced it would not hold 2011 World Cup Cricket in Pakistan. It will now held in three countries in stead of four. But Pakistan is now struggling bigger problem than their world cup dream.

Ruling PPP or Pakistan People´s Party is not so sure how to deal with these Taliban guerillas. Government is confused, weak and sluggish. They are taking long time to come to a decision. Their indecision is certainly helping Taliban´s to achieve more confidence and strengthening their positions.

Few days ago government has signed an agreement with the militants introducing Islamic law in the country´s North-West Frontier Province Swat, which is treated as a humiliating surrender by the government. Pakistan´s two neighbors Afghanistan and India has already express their deep concern mentioning that this will simply encourage Taliban fighters to be more aggressive.

Many Pakistanis have already changed their opinion. Pakistanis are started to believe if the military cannot stop Taliban guerillas then let the Americans intervene to stop them. Almost all the recent terrorist attack in Afghanistan, India and Bangladesh there has been some link with Pakistan. Few days ago UK police have arrested 11 Pakistani students in suspicion of terrorist involvement. In a poll it showed Pakistan is now one of the five most unpopular nations in the world. It became a terrorist nurtured ground in other word its terrorist production house for both internal and external use.

It is very difficult for a nation to survive this way. Their government is just observing and assuring, but failed to implement anything which they have to do. Pakistan authorities cannot understand it is dangerously suicidal. This sort harsh calmness will set blaze not only in Pakistan but many of its fellow neighbor´s home as well.
