Recognized for Support of Key Business Issues

WASHINGTON— U.S. Congressman Todd Tiahrt (R-Goddard) has been awarded the U.S. Chamber of Commerce´s annual Spirit of Enterprise award for his support of pro-growth legislation during the second session of the 110th Congress.

"I am honored to again receive the U.S. Chamber´s Spirit of Enterprise Award," said Tiahrt. "Economies are built from the ground up instead of the government down. With that in mind, it is imperative we create an economic climate in which businesses can thrive by holding the line on the President and Democrat majority´s runaway tax hikes, spending, and mounting regulations.

"American business owners should have the freedom they need to pursue their dreams without being burdened by more taxes and regulations. That is why I recently introduced my Renew the Dream resolution. This comprehensive legislation provides a framework Congress can use to encourage Federal agencies to implement rules and policies that work with, rather than against, job creators in order to help workers and businesses be successful.

"As Chairman of the House Economic Competitiveness Caucus, I will continue to fight for real solutions that will help businesses succeed and create high-paying, high-quality jobs for American workers."

Eligibility for the award is based on how members of Congress vote on key business issues, which the Chamber outlines in its yearly publication How They Voted. These designated "key votes" are recorded floor votes on issues established as priorities on which the Chamber communicates its position prior to the vote. Those members of Congress who support the Chamber´s position on at least 70% of those votes receive the Spirit of Enterprise Award.

Tiahrt maintained a 94% rating with the Chamber this year and collectively holds a 94% ranking during his tenure in Congress.

"Last year in particular, Congress had to make some tough choices, and Representative Tiahrt clearly demonstrated his commitment to the economy and keeping America competitive in an ever-changing global market," said Thomas J. Donohue, president and CEO of the U.S. Chamber. "The Chamber is proud to present Representative Tiahrt with the Spirit of Enterprise Award on behalf of businesses large and small."

The U.S. Chamber is the world´s largest business federation representing more than 3 million businesses of every size, sector, and region.
