A Common Purpose

Tim Williams
The first decade of the 21st. century is all but a few months from coming to a close. It has been a very destructive decade in that it started out with one of the most violent horrific attracts upon the United States since the beginning of World War II. From that pivotal point on America became engaged in conflicts all over the globe. The first eight years of 2000 the United States failed in its foreign policy decisions almost to the scope of incompetence. Not only that but from 2001- 2009 the United States financial institutions through the book away on prudent fiscal policies and created the world-wide financial disaster on the scope of the Great Depression of the 1930's.

Not only did all this occur but the planet was narrowly missed by a global killer asteroid, governments and major corporations policies helped spread global warming to the point that the worlds oceans have changed the landscape of the planet, and our oceans are now reaching a critical desalination point due to Arctic melting which means more violent storms are beginning to form every year. There has been a continuing world-wide out-cry but governments have yet to react and adopt stringent policies to curb and stop the causes of global warming.

The first decade of the this the 21st century is marked by seemly endless violence, continued poverty, famine, and pestilence. It seems like the Four Horseman of the Apocalypse has marched straight through the United States and the rest of the world from the Mr. and Mrs. Smiths of America's point of view; where a good % of citizens who went to work, tried to pay there mortgage, and did all the "right things" that an American citizen aspires to only to find out that they lost their jobs, their homes, and their lifestyle that they worked so hard to achieve now to find themselves in a world gone.

Through greed, manipulation, and an apathetic attitude by a few individuals the Mr. and Mrs Smith's of America are powerless to right the wrongs that have befallen them and now the rest of the world is in similar or even worse situations because of the actions of a few and of the inactions of governmental agencies that are supposed to protect the publics interest and not their own.

A common purpose now rises out of the turmoil of this past decade to ensure that the next decade and beyond history does not repeat itself. That starts here in the United States where millions of incomes have been lost and lives shattered. The United States Congress must immediately intimate a WPA { Works Progress Administration} type of program to offset the current rate of unemployment in creating blue collar jobs in infrastructure to rebuild the nations deteriorating roads, bridges, rail systems, our electric grid, schools and water-ways. At the same time congress must allocate more funding to unemployment compensation where $300 per week is still not enough to cover ones basic needs no matter where they live. The need is so apparent now that these necessary programs must be passed immediately to save our citizens from wallowing in acute poverty and further undermining the security of the United States.

We have to always remember that a nations national security depends of the health of it's citizens and the availability of the resources and tools necessary for each citizen to be provided with the means and opportunity to obtain living wage jobs.
