The United States of Aristocracy
I have an idea why things haven´t changed in the past forty years or more, one word…aristocracy. The rich, the very rich, have had their way in this country since its conception. No one really wants to voice that reality. Why? No President, Congressman/woman, or Senator would be where they´re at if not for climbing on the backs of our invisible aristocracy.
Let me give you an example that we all heard on the news this week. Many of the Democrats and Republicans who have shouted the loudest about AIG bonuses and the huge amounts of taxpayers' money being used to bailout such banks as Bank of America and Citi Corp, are the same politicians that have accepted campaign contributions from these organizations. No, it wasn´t money given during their campaigns a couple of years ago. It is money they have given these politicians "since" the bailout money was doled out three months ago. Hypocrisy? Yes. Uncommon? No.
Why will change never reach the little guy? Aristocracy. Of course, the poor man will receive a small morsel of the American Pie, but he/she will never reach out and find the dream searched for by every average citizen since life began. Those who have the most will always win the Monopoly Game we know as existence. It is called Social Darwinism.
Sure, as of April 1st we´ll get an extra fifteen bucks or so in our paychecks. Fifteen bucks, add it up, five or six hundred bucks a year. What it says is that we will still be poor. It´s our government´s way of saying #%&* you. Disagree? Go ahead take your extra fifteen bucks and see what you can buy. Nothing, absolutely nothing.
Republicans are saying let´s give everyone bigger tax cuts so they´ll really have more money. It´s not going to happen. Some say let´s have a flat tax. In other words everyone will pay one flat rate on their paycheck, eg., 16% or 18% across the board. I think it´s a great idea. In fact, several years ago Steve Forbes ran for President on that very platform. He failed and the idea failed. It will fail now. Why? Aristocracy. Rich people, very rich people can pay their attorneys big bucks to play the IRS loophole game. Yes, there are loopholes, loopholes that you and I can´t afford to find.
So is being rich wrong? Please define the word "rich" or "wealthy" for me. I know it´s not someone making $250,000 a year. In today´s world two hundred and fifty thousand bucks falls more into middle class category. Aristocracy is defined as, and I paraphrase, a government ran by a small prominent (rich) group of people.
Our Aristocracy maintains financially and ideologically many puppets in our Congress. You know the ones. They are the ones that cry the loudest and do the least to help the neo peasants of America.
I invite anyone to debate the concept.
