The Chief spokesman for the New York Police Department,Paul Browne, says 27-year-old Eric Collins shot a 30-inch arrow on a Bronx street Sunday, hitting 51-year-old Denise Delgado-Brown in the stomach as she stepped out of her car; while dropping a friend off at the Schervier Nursing Care Center on Independence Ave. Ms. Delgado-Brown was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital where she underwent two hours of surgery. She has since been released.

Police arrested Eric Collins Thursday on charges of reckless endangerment and criminal possession of a weapon. Police believe Collins had about a half-dozen arrows and shot one a short distance, hitting Denise Delgado-Brown in the stomach.

"I thought that maybe somebody had hit me with a baseball," she said during an interview earlier this week. "It just happened so quickly. I just couldn't believe it." Ms. Delgado Brown had just left church that day.

Collins, a plumber, was being held at a police stationhouse in the Bronx.

Investigators canvassing the area Thursday afternoon came across Collins while he was walking two or three dachshunds. Collins was smoking and drinking as he told police he didn't know anything about the arrow incident.

"When he was spoken to the second time he acted in a nervous manner. They asked him if he would go to the stationhouse and talk to them about the event . He agreed to go to the stationhouse," NYC Police Commissioner, Raymond Kelly said.

Police also said the full carbon arrow with a blunt head was a type used for target practice and capable of traveling more than 500 yards.

"The arrow itself, I am told, is called a Black Hawk 4000 and it can travel up to 1000 yards, so that's the area we are looking at," Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said.

Residence in The Bronx Community of Riverside, were concerned for the victim, but unmoved by fear saying this was a random incident.
