Humanitarian Aid Urgently Needed in Somali province.

Mahdi Haile
A humanitarian crisis is exploding in the Galgadud province of Somalia, where according to IRN An estimated 30,000 people were displaced in Wabho town in the Galgadud region following fighting between Islamist groups over the weekend, locals told IRIN. Also 3,000 children have been displaced and 2 schools build by Somali Diaspora destroyed because of the fighting in the area.

The Center For Somali Solutions International is calling on the warring factions to ensure that education facilities are deemed zones of peace, and that they are not targeted, damaged, or destroyed.

Immediate response

The local people in the area are moving quickly to respond to the immediate needs of the Victims of war. UN agencies and international agencies expect up to 300,000the displaced people will need humanitarian assistance within the next three months and believe these people are going to be displaced for a long period of time.

While officials estimate that nearly 30,000 people have been displaced in Wabho area, the volume of assistance and the number of humanitarian aid organizations are still too weak. This dire situation can only be addressed by a massive mobilization of international agencies and with much broader access to the region. So far, there is still extremely limited access to the region for aid workers.

Thousands of people are witnessing horrific violence, experiencing upheaval in their day to day lives and displacement.

Since fighting erupted between Islamist group of Ahlusuna waljamaah and Shabab last week. The Doctors in Elbur Hospital helped evacuate the wounded and the dead, showing great dedication to their humanitarian mission.

Since mid-December, a team of Doctors in Elbur Hospital the only Hospital in the Elbur District with six volunteers and several dozen staff has been providing assistance to displaced people in Elbur district.
