One woman approached me prior to the meeting and said, "Now this isn't going to be simple networking is it?" I told her "no" but leave any time if it is not what you are looking for. She was there the entire session. She took personal responsibility for her learning.
In my on-going self development, I know that to stay on the top of my presentations it has to be energized, interactive, loaded with take away information and most of all, authentic. Apparently it was because so many people came up after the presentation, individually, and to thank me. My life long learning in my skill paid off. I know this is especially important in a downturn of the economy.
Everyone should be investing at least 2% of their gross annual income in their own development. Don't become toxic or a difficult person either! It is all about personal responsibility.
