Interview with the author of "Wags and Gags"

Why did you title the book "Wags and Gags with Hollywood Burt"?

"Because it´s a humorous story about dogs."

Why did you decide to write an inspirational children´s book?

"I wrote a rough draft about 15 years ago. It was sitting in a plastic bin in my garage, and I decided to take another look at it. I reread it and decided it had potential. Then I rewrote it."

What´s the inspiration for this chapter book full of action and adventure?

"I´ve always loved dogs. We had a little mutt for about 15 years. We found him at the pound. The main character of the book is based on him."

Was it hard to write a children´s book?

"Every book is hard. Writing is never easy for me. When you´re writing for young readers, you have to adjust your style and vocabulary, of course."

How important is the book´s humor and comedy?

"It´s the most unique part of the book. I want readers to be amused and entertained. Not by jokes, but by humorous descriptions of the events and characters."

Do you think young readers will identify with the characters?

"They will, especially if they love animals and dogs."

How did you get the idea for Hollywood Burt?

"I had a friend who talked in a similar way."

What message does "Wags and Gags" give?

"The importance of hope, love, and friendship."

Do you plan a sequel to this chapter book?

"I like Hollywood Burt, so I´m developing new scenarios and plots that he would shine in."
