Becoming Dentist is one of a good health occupation concerned in the diagnosis, prevention & treatment of problems in the teeth & adjoining tissues of the neck, head & mouth. A dentist should posses the education, skills & necessary qualifications which are necessary to practice dentistry or in it´s other part. Practicing dentistry includes filling, cleaning, removing teeth, carry out surgical operations on the jaw or mouth, fitting & constructing artificial dentures or teeth.

Infection in the mouth could cause disease in different parts of the body; on the other hand, the teeth & their sustaining structures are also affected due to irregular conditions in various parts of the body. In general the dental structures cannot repair themselves therefore the care of mouth symbolizes a different health problem to which dentistry employs its own techniques & procedures, together with the medicine, so as to prevent local difficulties and the ill effects through entire body.

Mainly the dentists are general practitioners in all parts of dentistry. Repeatedly exams, with the use of special instruments, X-rays & tests, are necessary to identify the disorders in the early phases. Encrustations of calculus also known as tartar, compound of mineralized bacterial plaque, salivary mucus, part of bacterial metabolism & food remains, must be removed from the teeth in at least once a year. A tooth filling is done with a variety of correct materials. Teeth which are poorly broken down can be rebuilt, or the dental soft tissue of the infected teeth might need removal. Teeth which are not able to restore should be extracted, & the lost teeth required replacing by artificial ones.

Dentists are more and more providing instructions & care focus on preventing the missing teeth, instead of simply giving treatments like fillings. Development in the dental technology will also permit dentists to give less painful & more effective treatment to their patients.

The majority of dentists work for 4 to 5 days in a week. Some of them work in weekend & evenings to satisfy the patients´ requirements. The no. of hours worked differ greatly among the dentists. The full-time dentists labor for 35 to 40 hours in a week. On the other hand, dentists especially one`s who are looking to set up a new practice even work extra. It is general for dentists to carry on the part-time practice further than the normal retirement age.
