The various streams in the MBA program finally are set to hone the soft skills of the candidate. During the Common Entrance Test and the group discussions the true element of the person effaces. The peers in the institute are experts who notice leadership skills, and judge the knowledge of the applicant. During the MBA program, one learns new ideas and unlearns certain orthodox principles which were instilled during the earlier years.
MBA is a grooming session and one emerges more confident after acquiring the degree. Academics are also about scores and one learns to overcome mental blocks while learning subjects that are other than the area of a student´s interest. The MBA program is also about forming groups and maintaining a group presentation during each semester. This itself makes us learn and develop adjustment and conflict management in the following years to come.
The economic recession is certainly not the best time for enhancing career prospects. But the factor of luck cannot be relied on completely. The degree of MBA makes a person qualified but seeking the right job is very much a personal decision. The candidate must make necessary enquiries about the job scene in the sector and also a general idea about how the company is doing. Reading the balance sheet or taking the general opinion of others about the company reflects the financial health of the company.
Preparation for the job interview is important irrespective about the years of job experience or the number of academic qualifications the candidate holds. It is important to be practical and highly professional during the screening rounds or one-to-one sessions. Impressions are created and the person on the other seat has a special expertise in human resource related matters. It is perfectly fine to seek intelligent questions though the questions should not be out of sheer curiosity.
In times of recession where salary cuts and bonus cuts are prevailing seeking security in a job is more important. It is important to secure a job that is safe and choose a decent pay master rather than relying on the promises of heavy performance bonus checks and high salary. As the trend goes, exorbitant salary earners are usually in-a-not-so secured position when it comes to retrenching. While on job too it is important to go in for cross functional training and keep improving with a positive attitude.
