Idaho Isn't Only Known for the Potato

Neil Douglas
Idahoans are proud to live in Idaho and they have been since before their home became part of the United States on July 3, 1980, which made it the 43rd state to join the Union. It is located in the Pacific Northwest region of the U.S. and is known for its substantial potato production. However, aside from famous potatoes, it is also known for its beautiful star garnets, a fascinating gem that can only be found in one other part of the world – the Himalaya Mountains in India. This lovely garnet is the reason why the land was nicknamed "Gem State".

Idaho is made up of a large area that ranks 14th largest in America. There are more than 1,500,800 residents, making it the 39th largest in population in the country. Boise is the biggest city in both population and land and is the state´s capital. However, it is interesting to note that while Boise is the major city it isn´t the one with the highest crime rate. According to statistics from two thousand and six the most dangerous area to live in is Ponderay.

Nevertheless, while Idaho isn´t one of the most risky regions of the USA to live in, as it has a relatively low crime threat level of 2, the fact remains that there are criminals and thousands of felonies are committed each year. Therefore, to be on the safe side, it may be in your best interest to research some of the people that are part of your world to make sure that the Idahoans you know aren´t law breakers.
