Top 3 Phone Scams

Greg Wilson
The number of people each year that fall for the leading phone scams can´t really be counted since so many are too embarrassed to admit that they have been had, but the total numbers are thought to be in the tens of thousands. While new phone scams are born each and every day, let´s take a look at a few of the most popular scams currently in use as of spring of 2009.

First, and far and away the most common, is a phone scam that involves a very official sounding call from someone claiming to be from your bank, your investment firm or some other entity that handles your money. They claim that there has been a security breech and they need you to verify your account information. You happily supply that information and soon, your accounts are empty and you are left penniless.

Another popular phone scam involves the winning of a so called lottery that you have no clear memory entering. This is classic ploy that has been in use for as long as anyone can remember. The caller on the other end tells you that you have won a lottery but they need X amount of dollars to release the funds to you. You hand over your bank account number and a credit card number and you never see a single cent of these mythical lottery winnings.

Finally, other phone scams will claim to represent a charity asking for donations or one claiming that you have inherited money from a long, lost relative and you need to pay a fee of some kind to settle their estate. You can ensure that you will never have to listen to any of these scams when you use reverse phone number traces to put an end to unwanted calls for good. A reverse phone search is unlike any other search tool out there and it can protect you from any unwanted calls.
