Happy Slapping- A New Way To Gain Instant Celebrity Or Has Entertainment Reached A New Low?
Some persons have even told the writer of this article she would have been more successful if she would resort to cheating, lying, dishonesty and some other things to get her where she wants to be. Some things she will not do, since that’s not who she is. Lately though, it has come to this writer’s attention that some people would choose to deliberately hurt others, record video footage of the event and place it for all to see on the internet; granting them and their victim instant fame or notoriety depending on which way one would perceive such an act.
This particular act is known as Happy Slapping. From recent news coverage this is how it’s done. Some one armed with a video camera or camera phone walks up to an unsuspecting victim, and gets his or her attention by tapping him or her on the shoulder.
When the prospective victim turns around to face the camera, the person who taps him on the shoulder slaps him or her causing some victims of this act to rock backwards; then again sometimes this act can have fatal results.
Recently a victim of this act in England ended up falling down on hard cement ground. The young man died of his injuries. With so many high tech devices to keep today’s young people entertained, is this is form of entertainment that involves instant stardom once footage of the event is posted on the internet worth it? Moreover, is it necessary?
Will there ever come a time when people will stop going to great lengths to hurt others? Maybe not.
I like the internet, it’s a great research tool, it’s easier to communicate with far off loved ones and friends through email and instant messaging and most of all, it allows me and many other writers to write articles I and they can submit to this American Chronicle site. The world, on the other hand, seems to be filled with abusers.
Slapping some one just for fun is a form of abuse, whether it gains those individuals involved in the Happy Slapping incidents instant hits on the internet or not.
Maybe some things in this world will never change; as soon as one thinks one negative aspect of life has been suppressed another form crops up somewhere else.
There is one thing parents can do though. They can bring up their kids with enough love and discipline so they won’t get involved in such abusive acts, whether those acts bring them popularity, instant fame, and notoriety or not.
