The Return of SHADO

SHADO, the Supreme Headquarters Alien Defense Organization, was the paramilitary group established in the 1970 British television series UFO (pronounced you-foh) to provide a defense for Earth against an unknown extraterrestrial civilization attempting to harvest human organs.

While not known by that name, it has long been supposed that the United States government, under the auspices of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the U.S. Air Force has been jointly engaged in detecting and selectively aggressing unidentified aerial craft presumed to be extraterrestrial in origin.

Since the early days of space exploration, NASA has been aware of and actively engaged in monitoring unknown spacecraft that pursues and observes Earth craft during space operations. Numerous astronauts, including Neil Armstrong, Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin, Eugene Cernan, and others, have made public comments concerning UFO´s following the Apollo and Mercury capsules. Bear in mind that space travel was still in its infancy throughout our world. Cernan made the following comment to a Los Angeles Times newspaper reporter, "I've been asked (about UFOs) and I've said publicly I thought they were somebody else, some other civilization".

Since the military recovery of at least one crashed "flying disc" was reported in 1947 near Roswell, New Mexico, the U.S. Air Force, through numerous public and secretive operations, such as Project Grudge and Project Bluebook, has maintained a steady presence in relation to UFO´s, monitoring reports and seen actively investigating reported UFO landings, such as the Kecksburg, Pennsylvania incident. On December 9, 1965, reports flooded local media about a mysterious fireball seen flying in an easterly direction through several states, including Michigan and Ohio. The object was observed changing course several times before coming to a soft landing in the woods near a small town named Kecksburg. Soon, the military was observed cordoning off the area and restricting access to the landing site. Some witnesses were able to view the object before it was removed by the military, describing it as acorn shaped with strange markings resembling Egyptian hieroglyphics. Despite the direction changes and soft landing, Air Force and Army officials still refer to the object as either a meteorite or a manmade satellite crashing to Earth.

In their book The Other Roswell: UFO Crash on the Texas-Mexico Border, Ruben Uriarte and Noe Torres related the results of their investigation into the crash and retrieval of another extraterrestrial craft that crashed near Del Rio, Texas. The craft, its final minutes of flight, as well as the crash itself, was observed by Colonel Robert B. Willingham, USAF, during unrelated military flight operations in the area. Col. Willingham returned later that day to the crash site, only to find it occupied by Mexican troops, who relayed to him that special operations crash retrieval teams from the American Air Force were already enroute.

There is ample evidence that military and space agencies have actively and aggressively engaged unidentified craft. Through his relentless research for Project P.R.O.V.E., the late Jeff Challender discovered that during one Discovery mission, video shot from the orbiter showed an anomalous object moving and changing course near the shuttle, then shows a high-speed maneuver by the craft after something is seen streaking toward it from the bottom left of the screen, from the direction of Earth. The streaking object has been referred to as resembling a missile.

During the Stephenville, Texas UFO flap of late 2007 and 2008, numerous reports of aggressive military fighters believed to be F-16's pursuing triangle-shaped craft. Initially, Major Karl Lewis, a public information officer for the Air Force denied knowledge of military aircraft operating in the area, only to belatedly remember ten F-16´s launched from NAS Forth Worth Joint Reserve Base, formerly Carswell Air Force Base. It is with trepidation that it is noted that the unidentified craft, the UFO´s, operated within the restricted airspace over U.S. President George W. Bush´s ranch in nearby Crawford, Texas. It should also be noted that the unidentified crafts outflew American aircraft, literally leaving them in the dust.

The U.S. military and NASA are nothing if not micro-organized. Any controlled surveillance or response to sightings of often times aggressive extraterrestrial craft would be organized into a specific unit, budgeted, and stood up (placed into operation). In his 2007 book Dark Mission: The Secret History of NASA, author and former CBS News science advisor Richard Hoagland ascertains that NASA itself is a defense agency of the U.S. Government per the original agency charter, and that NASA engages its astronauts in formal security oaths forbidding them to address rumors of Alien life, extraterrestrial crafts, moon bases, or related information. Despite this oath, many astronauts have broken ranks and revealed at least some of their knowledge. NASA ascertains that its actions are in line with recommendations from the 1959 Brookings Institute report entitled "Proposed Studies on the Implications of Peaceful Space Activities for Human Affairs", which warns of the affects on the American public of revealing the existence of extraterrestrial civilizations. You must wonder why some in the government, military, and space agency can handle this information, and others in the general public cannot.

Whatever its ultimate hierarchy, its fundamental mission mandate, or whether or not it goes by the name SHADO, rest assured it does exist.
