76 Year Old Lady Arrested For Drug Dealing
If persons in our midst view such elderly members of the community as being respectable citizens, one could be alarmed if he or she were to hear of an individual of such standing being accused of some criminal act.
Recently a 76 year old San Antonio lady was arrested for dealing or selling black tar heroin. Police at the scene of her home confiscated a couple of luxury cars and other expensive items they assume were purchased with drug money.
While all this confiscation was taking place, the news crew showed video footage of the lady who seemed as calm as can be. She seemed to be in good health and disposition. If she is convicted, she could get up to five years in prison though.
As the news story faded away from the news scene, I stopped and wondered, do we place too much emphasis on the elderly as far as being model citizens is concerned?
For they were once young and lively people just like the rest of us. To top things off, they have also seen their share of bad habits, and good and bad times as they made their way into old age. They have feelings, and or their share of lovers, mates, jobs or careers, most of them are even some one's grandparents.
Sometimes, some young people in our midst forget that they will someday become older. They feel they are invincible and nothing will ever happen to them. Don't get me wrong, though, what this lady did was wrong, but considering her age, maybe a different form of punishment should be doled out.
If this 76 year old lady is convicted, she should get probation and possibly a fine. For what is a lady of that age supposed to do in prison?
She will probably take ill as her entire lifestyle would come with some drastic changes. In fact, some of those illnesses she might suffer from might need medical attention.
On top of everything else people’s hard earned tax dollars are already paying for, some persons might say oh what’s one more, while others might say not with my tax dollars you don’t.
