Female Journo sigh´s murder shocked the Nepal once again.

The world of Media is shocked once again with the unexpected murder of a journo in Nepal on 11th Jan 2009, This is the first incident to attack female journalist and killed in Nepal, although male journalist have been killed in Nepal and other part of the world while working in a war field or most dangerous situations.
Uma singh a Female Radio journalist was attacked in her room and killed by an unidentified group of people. The incidence took place in southern city of Janakpur at Rajauli . She was 26 years old and actively working for the local FM including Janakpur Today Radio and working as a reporter of women´s rights and against caste system and ongoing political situation of the country. She died on the way while she was taken to Kathmandu for her treatment.
She is the headline of most of the National and Local papers of the country and according to report her funeral procession carried out at swagadwari nearby Ganga Sagar Pokhari on Jan 13th in her funeral precession thousands of people gathered and demanded to punish culprit of the murder. According to different medias and news channel it is said that procession was led by President of Federation of Nepalese Journalist, Senior Journalists, media persons, students, political leaders, different professionals, students and local people of the region. Journalist around the country is still protesting the murder case. in Kathmandu only hundreds of journalists participated in a rally. They have carried out candle light vigil after the rally. Such protests are seen in other parts of the country.
The incident shocked the city and all the business houses, Schools, colleges, transportations and local offices shut down in Janakpur and its adjoining areas. They all were protesting against the brutal and inhuman act of woman Journalist. All the students and local people demanded and demonstrated against the culprit to take serious action .
According to BBC report it is said that she had been facing difficulties working in the region as there were numbers of armed groups mushroomed and they have to work in their pressure and threatening. If they don´t obey they take such action against the media persons.
The incident is widely criticized and demanding all the media persons of Nepal to the Government for their security and life threatening. They also demand Journalist Singh to declare a Martyr status, compensate to the victims family members and protect them from further attack in future and deploy strict security among others life.
The whole country is once again shocked and feels insecure after a decade long Maoists Movement. They had expected to retain peace and security after the government led by Maoists but the situation is still in same place in most of the Terai regions of Nepal, where different armed groups have rise up and taking action in their own way. A fear of kidnapping and killing is always in the head of most of the citizens in Nepal.
All the radios FM and TVs are airing melancholic tunes and for three days they are publishing press release and news about the incidence in most of the National and Local News papers. All the journalists of Nepal mourn Singh´s murder and feel insecure to work in their profession. Most of the media professionals are afraid to go back to their work. After this incidence it is believed that women journalists are highly discouraged to inter in this field.
But it is really very pity to say that the government has not yet been able to identify the persons behind the murder and the Govt. is widely criticized for not taking any serious action and find out the real culprit.
She had spoke to the interview how difficult it was for her to collect and broadcast news in the region as they have to dance according to the tunes of mushroom growth armed groups of the regions. Their life is not safe and can´t work in their own way without any fear and threatening. They are always forced to write news in their favor and if they deny doing so they have to face such situations.
The country is still fail to maintain peace and implement law and order in the country, even now more than five months have passed the Maoists started leading the government and after declaring no war in the country for more than two years, It has become very common in the country to kidnap and kill if they deny or unable to fulfill their demands. Now and then we hear such incidents in the capital and major towns and cities of Nepal. It is not the first case after Maoist came to the govt. in Nepal, in last December Himal Media was targeted and attacked, on the attacked journalists were beaten and threatened. Media houses were directly attacked in Nepal during last December and the attack was not only for the media but also for the democracy who fail to maintain peace and security to press freedom. On those incidents more than half journalists were attacked and injured. Most of the countries of the world including the US and United Nations had criticized the attack on Nepali Media house. All the journalists and Media professionals including human rights groups had come to the street to protest against the incidents and most of the leading News papers Editorials were left blank to show their protest.
But this time the situation worsens and attacked and killed a female journalist in her own room. Her murder is the latest in the series against targeting journalists in Nepal. It proves that Nepal is fail to maintain peace and security in the country even after ending up their decade long civil war against the former Monarchy and the Government and assuring people to maintain peace, harmony and development with a vision of New Nepal.
