A mother speaks out--crime, collusion and the California Department of Corrections

Moss David Posner M.D.
Someone forwarded the following letter to me. (Read my own take on this, which I wrote months ago in: The Sound of Silence) I cannot begin to tell you how much I appreciated seeing these words in print:

I think it is the prisoners and the doctors who are suffering the brunt of the corruption inside our prisons.

I believe the doctors are being used as pawns in the game of control over the lives of so many helpless people in various prisons. Most prisoners are not intelligent enough to fight for the most simple aspects of human rights. The mentally ill who can never sort their way through the legal system, let alone the inside functions of a prison. These people don't stand a chance, it is nothing but torture for them to the end of their lives.

The prison doctors are not now, and will never be organized enough with a strong enough union to force the CDC employees to comply with the orders of a doctor for the prisoner. Once the doctor leaves the room that is the "end" of the medical order. The guards, nurses and prison personnel do exactly what they want to do and to hell with the doctor's orders. The doctor might as well carry toilet paper to write on in place of a medical chrono.

The doctors were put into prisons as a legal remedy, a pawn, to cover-up the gross lack of medical care, and torture treatment that goes on between guards and the prisoners. The doctor "only" makes the event look legal. When the doctor signs the medical report saying there was "no obvious physical injury to the prisoner," that is pretty cut and dried, and will hold up in a Court of Law. At that point who is ever going to believe a prisoner? NO ONE! So the abuse continues unreported. The prisoner becomes more violent and the abuse becomes a vicious circle hidden behind the concrete walls of a prison. Only a "Moran" could dare to call this "reform or rehabilitation."

The doctors are as much of a prisoner to the California Department of Corrections as the prisoners themselves, and maybe even more than a prisoner. I would classify the doctors as a "hostage." Because, if the doctor goes against the CDC and reports any wrongful abuse, the doctor will be fired. At that point guess what is at stake. The doctors medical career, his medical license, and the complete and total end of the doctors ability to earn a living for the rest of his life.

It is a Capitalistic system of human piracy!

Talk about a prisoner to a system of control, that is the ultimate taking of ones life, to be held a hostage to a system of control with the daily threat hanging over the doctors head, of "do as we say, or your entire career will be gone, what you see here, stays here, remember that." Why would any doctor want to take a job in such a system of control and abuse? The whole prison system of management and employees are so sick it is almost laughable, to say nothing of the crazed and mentally deranged prisoners. The whole system evolves around politics, time clocks and paychecks and a toilet full of human life.

It is about time the prison doctors get a backbone and start practicing their medical oath, and refuse to be held a hostage as a pawn for the California Department of Corrections, and those who seek political status.

Please re-print this anywhere you want to and you can use my name on it. I would say you can even send a copy to the Prison Medical doctors union. Or simply e-mail it all over to any and everyone, even prison doctors.
