Enzi highlights Wyoming job numbers
Washington, D.C. – Wyoming has the second lowest unemployment rate in the nation, according to statistics released today by the Bureau of Labor Statistics and U.S. Sen. Mike Enzi said he is hopeful Wyoming will maintain its high employment long into the future.Wyoming supplies the world with energy, something the world cannot do without. We continue to position ourselves through new technologies, new supply routes and new development of non-traditional energy sources,” Enzi said. “But to really put ourselves in a good position for the future we need to continue to expand opportunities in small business and individual innovation. I’ve seen it in Wyoming schools and I saw it this week in Cheyenne at my annual inventors conference.”
The unemployment rate in Wyoming was 2.9 percent in March. Hawaii recorded the lowest state unemployment rate, 2.6 percent. The largest March percent gains in employment were in Wyoming, Nevada and South Carolina at 0.7 percent each and Montana topped the list at 0.8 percent.
The unemployment rate in the U.S. for last month was lower than the averages for the last four decades. More than 2 million new jobs were added to the U.S. economy within the past year.
Many of these aren’t just any jobs. They are good paying jobs. The majority of Congress has fought back efforts to increase taxes and consequently we are seeing expanded business opportunities in high-wage fields,” Enzi said.
Enzi plans to help increase the availability of new jobs through continued efforts in education, tax relief and the implementation of measures that shed more light on Congressional spending, which increases accountability to taxpayers.
