How to Tattle on Incessant Prank Callers

Dwayne Eisen
It´s the middle of the night. The phone rings, and the caller ID shows a number that you don´t recognize. You pick up the phone and hear nothing but heavy breathing on the other end of the line. You hang the phone up only to have it ring again, and once more, it´s someone you don´t recognize, only this time they are saying strange things on the phone and are making rude noises. These are prank calls, and while most prank calls are harmless, they´re all extremely annoying.

There is, however, a way that you can teach prank callers a lesson. Contacting the proper authorities is a good way to get prank callers to cease this immature practice. Most of the time, prank calls are performed by young children, teenagers, or adults who haven´t progressed past the adolescent stage. The first way to get these people to stop bothering you is to figure out exactly who they are.

Go to a website which allows you to do a reverse phone lookup. This will tell you who is calling your home. Sometimes, the phone number is from a pay phone, but if it is a younger person, the call will likely be from a cell phone or from someone´s home phone.

Once you´ve verified who is prank calling you, call the number back to see who answers. If you get an adult, let them know that someone is prank calling from their home. If the calls don´t stop, let the local police know so that they can take care of it. You may be asked to fill out an affidavit, but it will be well worth it to stop the prank calls from waking you up.
