Phobias – Some fear spiders, flying, kissing and even knees!
Claustrophobia (a fear of confined spaces) is something that between 2-5% of the world´s population has in common, but others are afraid of being in the open or crowds (Agoraphobia).
Some of these fears may sound strange to those who are not affected, but they are a very real problem to those that are.Phobias can take many forms, some are afraid of sitting (Kathisophobia), kissing (Philematophobia), the Mother in Law (Pentheraphobia), glass (Nelophobia), words (Logophobia), the number 8 (Octophobia) and even knees (Genuphobia).
It´s hard to imagine a person can fear "words", except those that frighten all of us, like: tax, rates, bank charges, interest, redundancy or perhaps "I haven´t got anything to wear for the party next week dear!", but our minds can allow these things to develop and very soon they take control, if we let them!
Not all of us feel comfortable at parties and social gatherings, and constantly worry about being negatively judged by others. This is called a Social Phobia and is one of the top 5 anxiety disorders in Britain.
Money worries can affect us at any time, but the recent financial crisis we are seeing worldwide has increased this problem, and the fear of going into debt (or losing your home) is not an easy situation to handle. The matter is made much worse by our fears and we have to accept, no matter how difficult it may seem, that this is not the end of the world and we can get through it if we try.
It is perhaps not surprising that the fear of terrorism has increased, but despite the reports, there is still more chance of getting run over by a bus than being killed by a terrorist!
Hypnosis is great tool for overcoming our fears and phobias, but can also be used for improving and developing yourself, it can help with health problems, relationships and manage stress.
So, whether you are afraid of some confined space (with or without your Mother in Law), are afraid of spiders, worried about getting someone else´s bacteria when you kiss, or are concerned about what others think of you at the next staff party, help is at hand!
