Tales Of Phantasia- The Video Game

Judy Ramsook
Video games can be an enjoyable source of entertainment. Today, there are so many from which to choose though. It seems there is something for everyone. There are the running and jumping action/adventure types, the violent shoot ‘em up variety, puzzles types, even the Sim City variety. The mature and violent ones come with a Teen or Mature rating and if some one is looking for an RPG, there are those as well.

I have played and enjoyed most of the Final Fantasy games, they were filled with enough action and adventuring to exercise one’s thumbs and mind, then most recently I came across one I thought I would give a try. That game? Tales Of Phantasia for the Gameboy Advance/Gameboy SP/Gameboy Micro/Nintendo DS portable Video Game systems.

Come join memorable characters such as Cress, Mint and others they meet along the way of their quest for the game’s ultimate villain, Dhaos.

Cress’s mission begins one day after returning home from a hunting expedition with a friend, Chester, to discover their village has been destroyed and all the villagers deceased.

At first I was impressed with the crisp, smooth graphics, then came the first battle scene. This is not your typical RPG video game battle system.

Our heroes in Tales Of Phantasia get to move from one side of the screen to the next, with your help, of course, equipped with battle cry sound effects too. In fact, at the end of each successful battle, one of the heroes, usually it’s Cress says ‘I did it!’

If you have not played a video game with real time battle scenes before, it won’t take long to adjust to this style of fighting. As you advance through the game, you and Cress will meet many more adventurers who will join you. Each comes with his or her own skill that comes in quite useful for those difficult battles ahead.

This will not be a spoiler for those who have not played the game yet, but if you are an avid RPG video game player, this game is certainly worth checking out.

It comes with three save slots and an E10+ rating for some violent and emotional scenes. Don't forget to save often and brace yourself for what is a long and involved game.
