Police Dogs
K9 term is generally used for police dogs, which has been derived from the word canine, referring to dogs and its relatives. Rescue dogs help people in accidents and disasters to bring them out to safety. Search dogs help in finding missing people by their gifted sense of smell. They also help police in solving criminal cases. There are cadaver dogs that are specially trained for sensing and searching human remains and bodies from scene of crime and accidents. Some detection dogs are trained to find out termites in homes, illegal substances in luggage, bombs, chemicals etc. Another use of guard dogs are in safeguarding our property like watchman. These guard dogs are also used in military services as war dogs for protection. K9 Corps term is used for war dogs which are used by armed forces. They perform special jobs like mine detection, wire laying etc. Police dogs on the other hand perform varied tasks and are termed K9 units. They are specially trained to track or immobilize possible criminals and some are even trained for tracking anti-terrorist activities like guard dogs. Thus they help in investigation and solving criminal cases. Police dogs are also given proper dresses and vests to wear for their protection. They even have their own badges and ids. Police dogs are given full respect of being police personnel and if they die on the scene of crime they are given proper funeral and burial. Killing of a police dog is a crime and involves punishment by law.
