Comedy Central Censors Image of Muhammad From South Park Episode

Robert Paul Reyes
Last month Comedy Central pulled a rerun of a "South Park" episode in which creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker made fun of Scientology, apparently afraid it might provoke Tom Cruise to break into their corporate offices and throw a sofa-jumping hissy fit.

Once again Comedy Central has displayed a yellow streak, this time banning an image of Muhammad from an episode of "South Park," citing "recent world events."

At least the Comedy Central honchos should have been truthful and cited "fear of Islamic terrorism" as the reason for censoring "South Park."

The episode instead featured an image of Jesus Christ defecating on President George W. Bush and the American flag. I guess if Christians want Stone and Parker to stop skewering their religion, they must set off a few bombs or jump up and down on a few sofas.

Can anyone explain to me why it's OK to depict Jesus Christ defecating on the president, but it's not OK to show Muhammad handing a football helmet to a character from "Family Guy"?

I find Tom Cruise and Osama exceedingly scary, but the media in the American bastion of democracy and free speech must not give in to religious terrorism.

Americans have died in countless wars to preserve our freedom and liberty, and now the cowardly media is failing to exercise that blood-bought freedom-- giving in to the threats of terrorists.

Maybe it's time that the Peabody Award winning show give up the ghost, watching a neutered version of "South Park" is not a very sweet experience.
