Finding that Phone Number

Evangeline Bruce
As seasons change and your life moves forward there are many people who may have walked in and out of your life. Some of these people you may never think on again. You might not remember their names or their faces. However, others may have left an imprint on your memory or maybe on your heart. At times you may find yourself reminiscing about these individuals or thinking of good times. Instead of just remembering, why not try and get in touch with a person you miss.

How can you do this when you don´t have the first idea where they might live? Why not try finding their phone number. To start with, browse through your local phone directory. Search for the last name that you remember them having and see what you come up with. If you find matches in the public phonebook, write down the corresponding telephone numbers so you can give them a call at your earliest convenience.

If you don´t have a telephone directory in hardcopy, or are unable to find the last name, you can then take your search for their phone number and address to the Internet. Using a forward search, which is essentially a phone book on a national scale, enter in their full name and try to fill in any other search fields to help narrow the lookup results (Note: only the surname is typically required to run one of these searches). If you manage to obtain results you will be provide with the ten-digit landline number, and their residential address.

What if I cannot find any information at all? In the event you can find nothing, this does not mean your person of interest is not a phone consumer, it probably means one of a few scenarios:

They have a landline but it is not registered under their name

They have a different last name than the one you remember

The only type of phone they use is a wireless

Due to the popularity of cellular phones, it is quite possible your long lost friend, family member, co-worker, etc., is an owner of one of these mobile devices. Unfortunately, there is no way for you to find out their cellphone number using a forward search because it is illegal to obtain this data for private numbers. This is the reason why a universal wireless phone directory does not exist.

What can you do? You can always resort to using a traditional search engine, try a public records site, or another lookup, such as a social network, to find the person online. However, another option you have that should certainly not be overlooked is to see if you can find out more about who owns a phone number you don´t recognize. You just might discover that a mystery number you have in your old address book or planner belongs to the person you are looking for. To investigate numerical codes, all you require is a reverse phone lookup.
