82-Year Old Woman Gets Ticket For Crossing Street Too Slowly

Robert Paul Reyes
Common sense, decency and consideration for others seems to be flying out the window, when's the last time you saw someone help a little old lady cross the street?

In the mean streets of Los Angeles an 82-year old woman was hit with a $114 ticket for taking too long to cross a five-lane street.

Mayvis Coyle who uses a cane claims she started her journey when the light was green, but was unable to shuffle to the other side before it turned red.

The motorcycle cop who gave Coyle the ticket scolded her for obstructing traffic.

Old folks are just an obstruction, they get in the way, they are too slow for our fast-paced society. Why not give drivers a discount on their auto insurance if they drive over an old codger who fails to cross the street in time? Is this the way things are going?

I hope not. Elderly people deserve our respect, compassion and consideration -- we are all going to be old one day.

The cop should have got his rear end off his bike and helped the elderly lady cross the street. If a driver has to wait a few more seconds at the stoplight it's not going to kill him.

I hope that cooler heads prevail and Ms Coyle won't have to pay the traffic ticket. Steps should be taken to accommodate senior citizens at busy intersections, how about an island at the middle of the intersection?
