Wildfires Burn Across Several States

Matthew Cole
Summer officially arrived in Arizona, California, Utah, Idaho and Nevada via wildfires. Each of these states is dealing with fires that has forced many from their homes and burned many acres of land.

In Arizona a wildfire has scorched more than 6,200 acres of desert brush and destroying at least six homes in the Mojave Desert. The wildfire is threatening hundreds of other homes and forcing the residents of this sparsely populated desert community to flee their homes.

A second fire has burnt over 30,000 acres of grass and brush and is forcing the evacuation of residents of over 250 homes. This wildfire has claimed at least ten homes as of early Thursday morning.

In San Bernardino, California a fire was started when a home caught fire and its flames spread to nearby tall grass. The local fire department claims to have the fire nearly 30% contained.

Meanwhile fire crews in Idaho and Utah are battling blazes that have not threatened any structures as of yet. The cause of these blazes is believed to be lightning strikes.

In Nevada, firefighters are fighting at least ten other fires started by lightning as well. The fires have burned over 11,000 acres so far.

In an area south of Las Vegas over 7,000 acres alone have burned and lead to the evacuation of 100 people from a nearby Boy Scout Camp.
