Santa Fe Reporter Endorses Tom Udall for Senate
Albuquerque, N.M. – The Santa Fe Reporter has endorsed Congressman Tom Udall for United States Senate. The investigative weekly cited Udall´s strong record of standing up for constituents and his ability to work across party lines to get things done.
"Unlike Pearce, Udall has represented the entire state before [as Attorney General], and he´s proven he can continue to get things done, even when the executive administration, be it of the state or the nation, is run by a different political party," the Reporter said.
Despite endorsing Pearce during his Republican primary battle with Heather Wilson, the Reporter concluded that Pearce´s views are both too conservative and too similar to President Bush to represent all of New Mexico.
Udall, the newspaper said, "has stood up for constituents on a variety of fronts."
"As attorney general, Udall was accessible and proactive in facing problems such as DWI, consumer fraud and domestic violence," the newspaper stated. "He was a voice against the USA Patriot Act and the Iraq War. He supports the State Children´s Health Insurance Program and fought against expanded eavesdropping abilities for US spy agencies. He voted to lower interest rates for college students, to increase the minimum wage and he has been a voluble voice for veterans´ rights."
The Reporter also cited Udall´s balanced approach on energy policy and his plans for making New Mexico a leader in job creation.
Udall has also been endorsed by the Las Vegas Optic, the Las Cruces Sun-News, the Santa Fe New Mexican and the Los Alamos Monitor.
