Socialism and Obama: Republican Scare Tactics

Stan Grimes
I was born during the Truman Presidency and didn´t really understand much about politics until the Kennedy victory in the sixties. I have to laugh at some of the shenanigans being pulled by both sides of the political coins, but especially by the desperate Republican camp. I haven´t seen this kind of dirty politics since the swift-boat adds against Kerry in 2004 again a pro-Republican group of radicals.

McCain and his less than honorable sidekick, Sarah, have gone to great lengths to demonize Barack Obama. Is there a choice here? Of course there is. Believe it or not I spoke with someone last week that still claims Barack is a Muslim linked to terrorists. Wow, ignorance remains a key to a possible McCain win. Seems like that is proof that a victory is a victory for the Republicans, right or wrong.

Should McCain win the presidency and God forbid something happened to him, Sarah the hockey mom would become the commander in chief. Do you trust your life and your country´s security to such an airhead? If you´re a Republican you do. If you´re a general out on the battlefield you don´t. She scares me. She scares me more than Bush or Cheney, and believe me that´s saying something.

How many Republicans who will sit alone in that voting booth are really going to push the button, pull the lever, or circle the names of McCain and Palin? In the deepest innards of your heart you surely won´t make the same mistakes you made in 2000 and 2004 will you?

Every attempt to scare the bejesus out of Americans,Republicans have tried. They have tried to link Obama to socialism forgetting that Republicans and Democrats alike voted to bail out Wall Street giving the government more control of our money than ever before in the history of our country. If that´s not a sign of socialism then I´m misguided. And, how about Social Security? Isn´t that a form of socialism? What about Medicare? We have used various forms or offshoots of socialism in this country for years. Think about Medicaid and Unemployment insurance. I didn´t see or hear Republicans screaming foul play when those programs were planned and implemented.

It´s desperation my friends. People do bad things when they´re desperate and making up false statements or misguiding innuendoes are just a part of the ploy to undermine their opponents. Just mention socialism, communism, or Marxism to a Republican and they run like Cheney´s after them with a shotgun. Fact is, Marxist and socialist economics have been taught in our colleges for years and if you ask many professors of these economic paradigms they´ll tell you that there are sound ideas in both philosophies.

A vote for Obama is simply a vote for a man who would finally like to see the wealthy get what they deserve, a tax increase. He actually cares for the middle-class, something which causes his opponents to tremble. What are they afraid of? Maybe, just maybe he´s right.
