Town Hall Meeting Gone Wild: Harry Taylor Rips Apart George W. Bush

Robert Paul Reyes
When I watch President George W. Bush handle softball questions from carefully chosen audiences, I say to myself, "If only I had an opportunity to fire a fastball.

With his ratings in the dumpster the Leaker-in-Chief has started attending some forums where not all the questions are scripted in advance. In a North Carolina town hall meeting, Dubya was confronted by a gentleman who packed some real heat.

Harry Taylor, a 62-year old soft-spoken commercial real estate broker, made the following question/statement:

"You never stop talking about freedom, and I appreciate that. But while I listen to you talk about freedom, I see you assert your right to tap my telephone, to arrest me and hold me without charges, to try to preclude me from breathing clean air and drinking clean water and eating safe food. What I want to say to you, is that I, in my lifetime, I have never felt more ashamed of, nor more frightened by, my leadership in Washington. I feel like, despite your rhetoric, that compassion and common sense have been left far behind during your administration. I would hope, from time to time, that you have the humility and the grace to be ashamed of yourself."

Since the Senate is too cowardly to act on Sen. Russ Feingold's call to censure George W. Bush, this will probably be the strongest reprimand that Bush will probably hear.

There are some who are shocked and outraged by Taylor's condemnation of the president, they argue that Taylor is a leftist kook who blamed Bush for everything under the sun except global warming.

But Harry Taylor does not speak for the lunatic fringe, he speaks for the majority of Americans, as Bush's exceedingly low ratings prove. Americans are worried about our loss of privacy, deteriorating environment and the corrupt and weak leadership in Washington.

President Bush did not flinch from Taylor's withering barrage, he responded with a vigorous defense of his domestic wiretapping program.

Harry Taylor spoke eloquently and from the heart, but Bush will not change his ways unless he is officially censured by Congress. I hope that the cowardly politicians in Washington will be emboldened by Harry Taylor's fine example.
