Jesus: Fact or Fiction
Today, the debates center mostly around the existence of a man named Jesus instead of God. Although, many Christian religions believe the two are synonymous. The latest offering on this topic is the ?The Jesus Papers,? written by Michael Baigent. Baigent makes the claim that Jesus not only survived his crucifixion, but also wrote to others that he in fact was not the Son of God. Baigent also suggests, like Dan Brown of ?The DaVinci Code? fame, Jesus was married. If you remember Brown suggests Jesus was married to Mary Magdalene.
Believe it or not, the idea of a possible marriage is not a new idea. Many Mormons (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints) have implied the possibility many times. The church?s leaders have hinted at the possibility although never including in their doctrines, declaring it only as a secular rumor.
If in fact there was a man named Jesus, could he have been married? Why not? Does the possibility go beyond the idea that there is a God? If Christendom can proclaim the existence of a God in the all-time best selling (quasi-nonfiction) book the Bible, why can?t the possibility of a wife exist? After all, the premise of the existence of a supernatural God is predicated on faith that the Bible is a work of nonfiction, a work of nonfiction that has been rewritten and edited by many?and there were no copyright infringement laws in early-written history (a good thing for King James). So, the question gives pause for thought once again and will until a super-tsunami takes us all from this planet, ?Did God Exist??
