Is Your Phone Ringing Off The Hook?

Dwayne Eisen
On any given day, any household in America may get anywhere from 1 to 10 different phone calls from telemarketers. While this annoyance is common, it is still something that many are curious about. Where, after all, do these companies get your number? How do they know to call you? Do they just start in the white pages of your city under the A and work their way through, or does someone give them your number?

The answer as to how telemarketers get your information is not a pretty one. In most cases, credit card companies sell your phone number to a list. The number goes on this list, which is filled with thousands of other numbers, and then a company is free to purchase it. They may also sell your address, which is why you receive so many pieces of junk mail in your mailbox every day. Once your name and number get on one list, it spreads like wildfire to dozens of other lists, which is why just telling someone to "take your name off the list" doesn´t always work, because there is more than one list!

Receiving telemarketers on your home phone is certainly a hassle, but having them call your cell phone is another. There are laws about telemarketers not being allowed to call cell phones, for the simple fact that there are no "white pages" of cell phone numbers, no matter how popular they are. This, however, doesn´t stop telemarketing calls from happening. If you have given your cell phone number out to a credit card company or to a magazine company as your home number, you will likely be receiving telemarketing calls on your cell phone.

If you are receiving these types of calls, check telemarketer phone numbers. It is a good way to help you to stop those calls from occurring anymore. A phone number search will help you to learn exactly who is calling your number. You can then call them back and ask them where they got your number and can trace the line back to the source, cutting it off so that no one else will get your cell number.
