These days, when your phone rings, more often than not, it´s a sales company calling to peddle the latest windows, credit repair product, or political candidate. In most cases, the calls interrupt dinner time at your house or annoy your family as they´re trying to watch television together.
Unfortunately, it´s beginning to happen on cell phones too. Despite legislation to the contrary, sales calls happen on cell phones all of the time. In that case, though, you may not have done it intentionally, but you did give them access to your number. Because more people have cell phones than landline phones anymore, most companies are asking for a call number when they are taking down your information. If, for instance, you order something from a catalog, you´ll probably be asked not only for a landline phone number but also for a cell number. If you give this number out, you will likely receive phone calls from a telemarketer.
Unfortunately, many companies need a valid phone number before they will take an order from anyone, so you may be forced to give them your cell number if you don´t have a landline. They then sell this number to telemarketing companies making a bit of money and putting you in a frustrating position.

Online communities are banding together to create directories of telemarketing calls, and your report will help others just like you. Moreover, you can investigate the reports others have already made while you are online. This will allow you to be able to see exactly what company is trying to get in touch with you. You can then contact their offices directly and explain to them that you no longer want to be bothered.
