How to fix Illegal Immigration without firing a shot

Allan J. Ashinoff
"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

Theodore Roosevelt 1907

America is being invaded.

The willful flood of illegal aliens into the United States is something any citizen (Democrat or Republican, Liberal or Conservative) simply can not ignore. The Mexican invasion has been quiet until recently. Ever so slowly, in large numbers the Mexican government has encouraged its people to look north to find work and of course, to send their earnings home to Mexico. Billions of US dollars pour into Mexico every year as many thousands of illegal workers take American jobs. Unskilled American laborers find that even the modest wages they have been capable of earning in the past are not assured as Mexican nationals, illegally in the US, work for less money and demand no benefits. Honest tradesmen find that they can not competitively bid projects against companies who hire illegal workers for a third of American workers wages. America’s culture, America’s economy, and America’s sovereignty are in danger and those elected and have sworn the oath to uphold the Constitution are apathetic at best.

After the ineptitude of September 11th 2001 it’s hard to imagine the United States government being lethargic when it comes to the security of the American people. After all the security of the people is the primary duty of the government and the reason the people have bestowed authority on government to begin with. Yet when it comes to the issue of illegal immigration the American people have overwhelmingly spoken and elitist politicians have chosen to ignore them and instead are complicitous in encouraging and building an attack on American society and sovereignty that will prove far more widespread, more damaging, and much more costly than 9-11 ever was or could be. Repeatedly throughout the nation the American people have spoken in the polls on the matter of illegal immigration in large cross party numbers. At the local level resolutions have been passed to ensure citizenship when a person needs to vote, to access social benefits, and to access medical treatment. Those resolutions, like proposition 200 in Arizona, have been largely ignored by Governors. The will of the American people has been rejected by arrogant elitist politicians; Politicians who may have been elected by the American people but have chosen to rule rather than to serve.

Noble citizens have taken it upon themselves to peacefully monitor the southern border of the United States. These Americans are doing what federal and state government plainly refuses to do; control the flow of illegal crossings into the US. The Minutemen have done an admirable job drawing attention to the irresponsible conduct of the Federal and State governments; slowing the flow of illegal immigrants from Mexico; and the insidious nature of the Mexican government in perpetuating this issue. The Minutemen have shown that, if the effort is made, a relatively small group of concerned Americans without a huge budget and without force could reduce the flow of illegal aliens coming into America. Yet the leader of the free world, President George W. Bush has labeled these patriotic and honorable citizens as ‘vigilantes.’

The ‘vigilantes’ in the matter of illegal immigration is President George W. Bush and his Democrat and Republican cronies at almost all levels of government. The United States government has chosen to ignore exiting laws and ignore repeated calls from the American people to do as it wishes despite its charter to serve.

As Jack Abramoff heads to jail the image of American politics can not be clearer. American politicians may have some sense of duty to the nation during election years but they have their daily motives firmly grounded in greed. Capitalism by its nature is based on greed. Capitalistic greed fosters and encourages self interest, self determination, and individual ambition. To Capitalism greed is an asset.

A primary flaw in socialism and communism is greed. In socialism and communism to control the hoarding of wealth by individual’s governments take greater control of wealth and its distribution. The difference between America and France, Mexico, Cuba or North Korea is pretty simple. The American civilization was structured around greed to exploit human nature, encourage individual creativity and ambition based on individual self interest. France or Cuba built their societies to subdue greed (human nature) and have consequently stifled self interest, self determination, and individual ambition and replaced it with the common good.

The cost of subduing greed can be seen as the people of France riot over the prospect of having to work more hours and the possibility of losing their government assigned and guaranteed job. In Mexico the cost can be witnessed the government encourage its people to leave by any means due to their apathetic economy. Mexican citizens pour into the American southwest across unforgiving deserts risking their lives for sub standard American wages in hopes that their families will live better without them. In places like Cuba people have to wait a year for the government to assign them a new home for a growing family. In Communist or Socialist nations the ability to produce is as paltry as the quality of life the majority of citizens enjoy.

Estimates are that there are currently between 11 and 20 million illegal immigrants from Mexico in the United States. On the low side 11 million illegals are more people than the entire population of New Mexico and Arizona combined and more than half the population of the state of Texas. The sheer quantity of these illegals is a huge strain on America’s health care, crime, prisons, welfare, and economy. In a free market capitalist environment people are paid what the market will bear. Illegals willing to work for less than fair market value just to have employment to send money home to their families. Illegals and their American employers undercut what American wages should be, suppress the market value of items, and entirely eliminate unskilled jobs from unskilled Americans seeking to earn a livable wage. American business trying to compete legitimately can not compete and are doomed to fail from this unlawful and unethical business practice.

The American Executive and Legislative branches recognize the harmful impact illegal immigration is having on the American economy and choose to ignore the American voters. The President, Senators, and Congressmen posture and speak political jibe as they view the 2006 elections. They throw together bills and debate but their ideas do not reflect the reality of what the American people have voted and ratified time and again; secure the border, deport illegals, and establish and enforce a work visa program. Not since the American Revolution have the people spoken out so resoundingly and been received so deafly; its taxation without representation all over again.

There is no one step fix for Illegal Immigration but there is a definite solution that would work. To resolve illegal immigration and stay true to her compassionate nature and avoid the inevitable racial backlash that will eventually occur America need recognize and follow the most basic human principal: Greed.

USAid.gov reports that in 2004 the US gave Mexico (the worlds 10th largest economy) $30 Million US dollars to assist President Fox in implementing his policies for Mexico. In contrast the money sent back to Mexico from its citizens residing and working illegally in the US nets Mexico $20 billion dollars. To fix the issue of Illegal immigration from Mexico one has to hit Mexico in the pocket.

  • For each Mexican national caught sneaking into the United States illegally deduct the cost of that person’s apprehension and from US Aid to Mexico.

  • For each Mexican national caught working in the United States illegally deduct the cost of his apprehension, his wages stolen from a US worker, and the cost of his deportation from US Aid to Mexico.

  • For each Mexican national caught using the United States health care illegally deduct the cost of the health care provided, his apprehension, wages earned, and deportation costs from US Aid to Mexico.

  • For each Mexican national caught illegally embedded in an American welfare system deduct any funds given to that person or family, the cost of apprehension, wages earned while illegally employed in the US, and deportation costs from US Aid to Mexico.

  • For each Mexican national caught illegally embedded in America’s educational system deduct the cost of education, a fine for taking up a seat which was intended for an American, the cost for apprehension & deportation and any or all aspects from above which apply.

When the US Aid to Mexico runs out, and it will, Mexico receives a bill from the United States for our costs of their illegal immigrants. If the bill for immigration enforcement is unpaid economic sanctions are placed on Mexico. To provide incentive any Federal or State agency or law enforcement department who apprehends and deports an illegal is entitled to the monies associated with that person’s apprehension and deportation. Citizens would be entitled to a share of the reward for turning in those people they know are illegally in the United States from the agency they report that person’s presence to.

Those apprehended in the United States and deported should be prevented from ever entering the United States legally in their lifetime.

Despite our leaders desires the American people want immigration reform. Americans by a large majority welcome legal immigrants and are repulsed by the throng of audacious illegals amassing in American streets demanding rights and benefits. Repeatedly American citizens have voted and ratified legislation which calls for monitoring and enforcement of America’s existing immigration laws only to be ignored by state and federal officials. Today the federal government lauds itself over a ‘compromise’ that will in no way meet the demands the US citizenry called for to protect America’s sovereignty and culture. In 1775 it was called ‘taxation without representation’ and it caused the violent birth of a great nation; today, it seems it’s called ‘politics as usual.’

Americans are not subjects. America's people wield the power. Watch what happens, remember names, and vote America’s ‘royalty’ out when the time comes.

“The difference between a democracy and a dictatorship is that in a democracy you vote first and take orders later; in a dictatorship you don't have to waste your time voting."

    Charles Bukowski, Poet(1920-1994)
