WHO WILL DEFEAT THE MARRIAGE ODDS

Burrell Pope, Ed.S
Just over a half century ago couples began their marriages with the hope that they would be together for the rest of their lives. Both would grow old together, living in the house with the white picket fence and raising kids and grand kids. Unlike couples of the past the couples of the new millennium have a totally different mindset. A large number of couples begin their journey with a heart full of doubt and fear. Fear of the unknown; will this marriage work; what will happen if we get divorced? All couples ask this question, but sometimes newly married couples can think about such things so much that they can become reality. The truth of the matter is that numerous couples are divorcing at an alarming rate. On the other hand, some couples are together for decades but are still in bad marriages. These couples stay married for various reasons such as children, finances, health benefits, and for the fear of being alone, yet there is no love or joy about being together.
