A Salute To John McCain

Finally, the moment many of us have been waiting for. John McCain on Friday proved that he is a real hero. Sure, we have all known that he was a war hero tortured in the jungles of Vietnam, but now, now he has shown us what a true hero can do. A true hero can reach beyond the narrow-mindedness of bigotry, prejudice, and misinformation, to embrace truth. John McCain, the hero, did just exactly that. I applaud him.

Anyone who has ever read my articles (believe me that´s not many) know I am a Liberal, a weak atheist, and sometimes a weak writer, but I believe in giving praise where praise is needed. Although I do not subscribe to Republican economics, I do recognize every Republican as human beings. Republicans should return the favor. Barack Hussein Obama is an American, a human, a father, a Christian, and an inhabitant of the world.

It is sad to say that the world does not have enough heroes. That is, those people, who can reach beyond the stereotypes given them by generations of hatred and prejudice. It doesn´t take rocket science to realize that if people would just stop for a moment and open their minds to logic, they would realize that the person you´ve been taught to hate, is just that, a person.

In these troubled times both economically, morally, and yes…spiritually, we must look at our neighbors differently. We must see through those mountains of prejudices and stereotypes, and see one another as fellow citizens of life. We are all sitting on this spinning planet waiting to get off and in the process we must try to come together and solve the problems ahead of us.

Sorry if I´m a little preachy today. I haven´t had my coffee or cigarette. I have to quit one of those bad habits one of these days, but I must solve the problems of the world first. It´s going to take awhile (that´s a joke in case anyone is reading).
