"Ghost Town" One of the Best Movies of the Year Exploring Life, Death & Ghosts with Ricky Gervais, Greg Kinnear and Tea Leoni

Pam Vetter
In dealing with the drama of life, we need a good laugh now and then and I've been waiting for a funny movie. Thanks to my teenage son's suggestion, we went to see "Ghost Town" starring Ricky Gervais, Greg Kinnear and Tea Leoni.

I didn't know much of actor Ricky Gervais beyond some funny exchanges with comedian Kathy Griffin on her television show. His career is far bigger in Britain. As for actor Greg Kinnear, my family met him in person a few years ago. Kinnear was wonderful and kind, even though my children had no clue who he was at the time because many of his films were R-rated and they were far too young. Kinnear is definitely one of the good guys in Hollywood for his welcoming attitude.

Truly, this PG-13 movie "Ghost Town" is an incredible find! Everyone who has ever had a loved one die should see this film. It's powerful and reminds us what life is really about.

Ricky Gervais portrays a dentist who basically avoids people. His character is a negative thinker who is anti-social. On-screen he says out loud what we think or avoids people as we'd like to avoid sometimes. The action rings loud and true resulting in pure laughter. After his character dies for seven minutes, his life changes as he can see and hear ghosts who need closure. One of those ghosts, played by actor Greg Kinnear, haunts him until he helps his widow. What unravels from there is a lesson in life, death and the healing process.

We laughed, we cried and this film hit home reaching the entire audience. So much so, the entire audience applauded at the end of the film. They didn't care who was sitting next to them, the tears were flowing through smiles and they applauded. Many of the people in the audience didn't want to leave the theatre immediately. Instead, they found themselves sitting and thinking about what they´d just witnessed on the big screen, wanting to see it again.

My advice is to go see "Ghost Town" and find out why the other ghosts are following Ricky Gervais' character around town. It is poignant, meaningful and memorable. This film deserves notice and audiences.

Take note, this viewer predicts "Ghost Town" will be an unexpected hit!
