September 25, 2008 (Sacramento) AB 2321, authored by Assemblymember Mike Feuer (D-Los Angeles) was signed by Governor Schwarzenegger today. The legislation authorizes the Los Angeles Metropolitan Transportation Agency (MTA) to place on the November ballot an additional 0.5% sales tax for transportation funding. The tax is estimated to generate up to $40 billion for major transportation improvements throughout Los Angeles County.

"Los Angeles desperately needs to improve our transportation system. People spend too much time in their idling cars sitting in traffic rather than at home with their families," said Feuer. "This bill enables Los Angeles residents to transform our region."

AB 2321 is supported by a diverse group of interests including the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce, Los Angeles Business Council, Valley Industry & Commerce Association, Environment California and CALPIRG.

Assemblyman Feuer was elected to the California State Assembly to represent the 42nd Assembly District, which includes all or part of the Los Angeles communities of Sherman Oaks, Studio City, North Hollywood, Valley Glen, Valley Village, Toluca Lake, Universal City, Griffith Park, Brentwood, Bel Air, Holmby Hills, Beverly Glen, Westwood, Century City, Hollywood, Fairfax, Hancock Park, Los Feliz, as well as the Cities of Beverly Hills and West Hollywood.
