Watergate Figure, John Dean, Calls For Censure of President George W. Bush

"If the president does it, it can't be illegal."

President Richard Nixon.

"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.

Philosopher George Santayana.

"I ain't got no time for Jibba Jabba"

Action hero Mr. T.

Richard Nixon's imperial attitude led to Watergate and his forced resignation.

President George W. Bush must have been hung over during history class because he didn't learn the lessons of Vietnam or Watergate.

Dubya may have used history books as a pillow, but fortunately a figure from history has come forward to rebuke the imperial presidency of George W. Bush.

Nixon White House counselor John Dean declared that President Bush's domestic spying exceeds the wrongdoing that led to the downfall of his former boss.

"Had the Senate or House, or both, censured or somehow warned Richard Nixon, the tragedy of Watergate might have been prevented," Dean lectured the Senate Judiciary Committee. "Hopefully the Senate will not sit by while even more serious abuses unfold before it."

Hopefully Dean's warning will wake up the lethargic Senate, and they will heed Wisconsin Sen. Russ Feingold's call to censure George W. Bush.

Feingold's measure would condemn Bush's "unlawful authorization of wiretaps of Americans within the United States without obtaining the court orders required" by the FISA act.

President Bush argues that he was authorized to order eavesdropping on American citizens under his wartime powers as commander-in-chief.

What will it take to prompt the Senate to take action, does Howard Dean have to scream, "I ain't got no time for Jibba Jabba, let's censure this sucker"?

Islamic terrorists destroyed our buildings and butchered thousands of innocent people, but their savagery only served to strengthen our resolve to defend and fight for our democracy.

Bush's domestic spying is destroying our civil liberties and only serves to sow discord and breed pessimism.

George W. Bush must be held accountable, a slap on the wrist will simply not do, he must be censured.

I'm tired of all this Jibba Jabba from smug Republicans and cowardly Democrats -- Congress must censure George W. Bush.
