That Jolly Song That's Stuck In My Head

Judy Ramsook
There have been or will be instances in one’s life when he or she is so moved by a certain song or movie that he keeps playing it over and over again. No matter how many times one listens to the piece of music or watches the flick, it never grows old.

If this portion of entertainment happens to be a piece of music, the enthusiastic listener pays close attention to every word, every beat even the reverberation sound effect.

Such a song captured my ears, dance feet and heart in the late eighties. The song? I Beg Your Pardon by a Canadian group known simply as Kon Kan.

I recall what I was doing when I first heard the upbeat, infectious dance along to single. I was in the car on my way to a relative’s bridal shower.

Since I was already in a jovial mood at the time, hearing the song on the radio seemed to have added more meaning to the occasion I was on my way to.

What really made the song all the more infectious was the way the group, Kon Kan implemented a portion of the Lynn Anderson hit, Rose Garden in the melody. Together with the beat also comes the portion of the Lynn Anderson hit effectively reverberated.

I enjoy listening to that part of the song so much that it’s when that particular portion of the melody is heard, so is the volume on the stereo system turned up high. Thank you Kon Kan for the melody I cannot get of my head.

Most importantly though thanks to Lynn Anderson for her Rose Garden hit. Maybe she was right just as the portion of the song says, ‘love shouldn’t be so melancholy, come along and share the good times while you can…’

At times we all become so absorbed with the serious side of life that we may forget how to enjoy ourselves. This Kon Kan hit reminded me that sometimes we need to let go of some of the stress of living and try to enjoy life and love the best we can.

For we all need a song to put a smile on our faces and some rhytm in our steps some time. I Beg Your Pardon by Kon Kan is the song that puts an extra dance move in my step and cheeful lyrics to sing along to as well.
