Scary, quick read? This is the book for you
Author: JOEL M. ANDRE
If you´re looking for a scary, quick read, then this is the book for you. The author captivates us right away with some terrific scene setting, full of sensory images, vivid descriptions, and plenty of suspense. The characters are real, the violence is deliciously gruesome, and I think fans of the horror genre will be enthralled. Although it´s less than two hundred pages long and might better qualify as a novella, this little book packs quite a wallop; it held my attention so well—I devoured it in one sitting.
The story opens with a tense scene in which Casey Dwyer, our protagonist, is driving to a remote, disturbing area in the woods to pick up her sister, who is on foot. On the way home, they´re involved in a nasty car wreck in which the sister is killed. Casey survives, but is injured and vulnerable so she goes to stay with her mother. Ominous text messages follow Casey. The suspense builds, cleverly written from three points of view: that of Casey, her mother, and a threatening apparition. The disturbing messages continue, culminating in an unthinkable request, heaping plenty of pressure on Casey. Will she go mad and end up in a mental institution? The ending will take you by surprise.
The author hails from Arizona; his previous books include: Pray the Rain Never Ends and A Death at the North Pole. You can visit him on the internet at: www.joelmandre.com.
