How To Unsubscribe From Email Lists

Randy Eadon
If you receive email on a regular basis, or multiple emails at once, your email address is probably on an email list that you will have to unsubscribe from if you have any hope of stopping the annoyance. The fact is, it is very easy to get added to an email list. Just about any time you give a company or webpage your email address, you are probably asking to be added to their email list. The good news is, it is easy, and almost always effective, to simply unsubscribe, and for some reason it is not, you can lookup an email address online.

If you notice that you get multiple emails from a particular email address, it might be in your best interest to skim them before deleting, to determine the best way to effectively unsubscribe. Some places might want you to go to their website, while others simply ask that your reply to that or another email address. Luckily, every spam message is required to list this information, so unsubscribing should always be your first potion.

If you unsubscribe from an email list, and still continue to receive messages, or get a message that does not have a note about unsubscribing, you may want to take further action, and often the best way to do this is to lookup an email address online.

Reporting an email address is a very real option for emails that fall into this later category, or those that otherwise break ethical boundaries, but before you can do this, you have to know a little about the real origin of the message. Since you cannot rely on the header alone, since this information can be spoofed, you will probably need to lookup an email address to take further action against spam email.
