Pardon Services Canada Lends Its Support to Leukemia Effort in Alaska Marathon
The marathon, which takes place on June 17th, has attracted runners from all over Canada and the US who each must raise $5500 for leukemia, lymphoma, and Hodgkin's disease.
The leukemias are the most common cancers in the young, and account for slightly more than one-quarter of all malignancies in Canadian children and teenagers. In the United States 29000 people a year, including over 2000 children are diagnosed with the disease.
With enough research and funding, it is possible to find a cure.
For this reason, Team In Training has organized a team to run for a cure in Alaska.
For most of these runners, travel to the United States is something that they take for granted, however, with a criminal record, travelling abroad can be completely impossible.
A criminal record can have other adverse effects on the enjoyment of life and the pursuit of happiness. A criminal record can limit career advancement, volunteer opportunities, child custody, the ability to rent, adopt, seek bonding as well as immigration status, and educational opportunities.
Pardon Service Canada's aim is to provide peace of mind and equal opportunities for those who have already paid the price for their past discretions.
By supporting runners attempting to raise money for leukaemia, Pardon Services Canada highlights two of the freedoms that should be enjoyed by those with a criminal record; the opportunity to volunteer their time for a good cause, and the ability to travel to the United States without persecution.
Don't let your past limit your future. If you would like more information on gaining a pardon or waiver for a criminal record, contact Pardon Services Canada today.
